Crank Pulley / Vibration Damper Issue
Hi,
Had a strange issue on my 2009 E92 320D for a while now, which i think i have narrowed down to be the crank pulley. Basically once the car is warmed up (never does it during first 10-15 mins of the day) i get a squeal/chirpy noise when going above 1500rpm (sounds like a slipping fan belt, but not as bad), it does not do it on idle and i cant hear it when it gets above 2000rpm, although this just could be the engine noise drowning it out. It also does it when i turn the engine off, as it does its final turnover. I can fix it temporarily by spraying WD40 behind the pulley (pic below where im spraying - fixes for 4-5 weeks). https://www.dropbox.com/s/4hgisx39ua..._4368.JPG?dl=0 <- link to picture (wont let me embed it?) Does it sound feasible to get this changed? Roughly how long would it take a garage to do? thanks in advance. |

thanks for the quick reply, ive replaced the belts with no joy, only spraying lubricant with a straw, right in behind the pulley (nowhere near the belt) fixes the issue temporarily so im sure its not a belt/tension issue.
I also read on one site the crank pulley is welded to the crankshaft on these engines??? (N47) - that can't be correct? |

have you thought about using something a little longer lasting than wd40, that shit evaporates and doesn't stick around long. maybe something more like oil would keep the noise away.

yes i have tried something "longer lasting" but it doesnt appear to fix the issue at all, maybe too thick to get where it needs to go?, id rather get to the bottom of the problem rather than masking it
also i dont know if its in my head but i can feel a slight vibration, so perhaps it is failing? essentially i am just after a rough guide to how long it would take to change the part so i can guestimate a price. I have a rough price of the parts |
