Replacing turbos next week with a lot of documentation. Will post here when I'm done.
For any of those who have done this yourself, any tips and tricks to save time would be appreciated.
Also, if you guys have any requests for pictures, etc. during the swap, let me know. |

I have done 2 single turbo upgrades on the floor with jack stands in the past month. It can be done on the floor. It's not that bad. I can have the turbos out in about 4-5 hours. This way.

Get yourself a harbor freight engine support bar... Best 80 bucks I've spent at the freight.

This is how I am doing it as well. I have access to a lift, but would prefer to do this at my own pace.

The guys have already said it all. Tony Vargas encloses some advice for swapping out the turbos, as i don't have access to a lift i got Darren Wood to do the work. Drop the sub frame, check oil lines and replace if need be. Change oil and filter, and prime turbos (turn engine over to get oil into turbos without starting...i presume fuse is removed)

Put the car on jack stands. Place a jack under the motors oil pan with a piece of 2X8 between pan and jack. Loosen booth motormount nuts. Jack motor up 1-2 inches. Remove passenger motor mount. Remove overflow tank and boost solenoids by the whole bracket. Boom, have at it now!
BE CAREFUL IF WORKING UNDER YOUR CAR!!!!! DO NOT CUT CORNERS ON SAFETY!

Love this thread and hopefully you're putting a lot of pics and info on here, cause I've bought RB turbos which I'm gonna put on within a month, so it's nice with a lot of good advice and how to do it easiest But is there really enough space to take off and mount the new turbos if you're only lifting up the engine 1-2 inches?
Are people also putting on a new waterpump now that the coolant is going off as well? I've also got a lift and engine support bar for getting the job done easiest |
