2003 Z4 Fuel Efficiency

Question. I just checked the mpg, and it tells me 20-29. Now I'm guessing that with out the "Sport" mode, that maybe a good guess. When I drive, I just use the "Sport Mode" but I don't engage the "Tiptronic". But it's eating up gas in a big hurry. Now I don't drive that much, and I fueled up the car Three days ago, and it's already 3/4 full. A quarter tank within three days......So tell me, since I just bought this car. What is the best way to drive it??

Thank You.

You didn't buy a Z4 for gas mileage did you? Stop worrying about that, find some nice roads by the coast and enjoy!

I already have done most of the of the 101 that get's you down to the coast. Great winding roads, and the car handles it GREAT. It just when I travel those roads I would MUCH rather have a manual, Your in more control with that. (At least in my opinion)

Myself and one other user have clocked US 39 MPG in X5 diesels. There is over 400 lbs/ft of torque in the engine, and despite size/weight 0-60 in 6.5sec. Of course, you won't get that mileage if you want to set 0-60 records.

This is the thread with posted MPGs. http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1081659

You may want to consider a similar thread in the Z4 area, where users can post their best/worst/usual MPG.

M235 XI is a gas pig. I can get barely 9.0 l/100kms on highway with cruise control, 8 speed automatic and with Eco-pro on.

My 2011 335Xi 6 speed automatic would get down to 7.4l/100kms

I had a 2003 BMW z4 as well with sports package. I noticed at first the MPG was just ok. About a year later I took it to get new tires and the mechanic told me the ones on the back were actually the wrong size..... I then told him to put the right size ones on (Michelin primacy MXV4) and my gas milage shot up to about 29 hwy and 24 city.

SO check tires/inflation psi, etc. and then look at changing air filter if it is dirty.

That is not very scientific OP. "Gauge shows 20-29" Well, which is it? Have you actually measured the actual mileage? Also, 3 days and now showing 3/4 tank is pretty meaningless. I can go through 4 tanks in one day. Do you reset the gauge every fill up?
