Pictures of The First BMW Ever Made 1898

Went to the Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar CA yesterday to see their phenomenal collection of everything. Amongst their car collection they had the first BMW ever made.

In 1898 the German Armament Manufacturing Company Called Fahrzeugfabrik Eisnach built the Eisenach Runabout. The company evolution went from Eisenach to Wartburg to Bavarian Motor Works (BMW).

The Eisenach Runabout Engine was a:
Vertical Twin
2 cylinder
479cc
10 horsepower

The 6 cylinder purest will have to settle down.

The car was displayed in a replica of a 1920s show room (first picture)
The Runabout was displayed in immaculate condition next to the grand staircase.
The car had an open differential gearbox and slick tires driven by the V (Vertical) two cylinder engine.

I do want to apologies for the poor quality of the engine and differential pictures, my camera has difficulty in tight spaces and the view screan it too small to judge quality.

the last picture is a one of a kind silver Duisenberg This was presented and sold at the worlds fair for $20,000. Before you say I could have afforded that, A house sold for $1,500 in those days. Yes the zeros are correct.

Please enjoy the Pictures

I am sure of it. Those handles must have been dynamically moving all over the place!
