*First World Problem Rant* Mobile Websites GRRR
Fair warning, I'm about to vent about a very first world problem.
I do 99% of my web browsing on either my iPhone or iPad and every website defaults to the mobile version of the site, which I cannot stand. I like being able to move around on the page, zoom in on what's relevant and access the website the way it was designed to be used... Not some garbage looking listing of words in a piss poor "mobile" layout. And often times (like on these forums), crucial info is missing on the mobile version. WTF!? Does anyone else feel this frustration and wish it was just the regular desktop site? Efffff. Last edited by sirdaft1; 03-11-2015 at 10:12 PM.. |

You can request a desktop site since there are features that aren't available on mobile versions, but sometimes the layout is all sorts of messed up or takes forever to load, which is the part that irks me when I'm on my cell phone. If I'm on my tablet, it really depends on how well thought out the sites are.... But either way, if a site is REALLY not even designed for a mobile layout (e.g. it uses Flash or isn't even viewable on say... A non-widescreen 17" monitor @ 1024*768 like a computer I had to use at work before... The boss is too cheap to get infrastructure upgrades), then THAT gets annoying to me.
Just my 2 cents.

Are you surfing with Safari?
If so, while you're on a mobile version of a site, tap on the address bar. Your Bookmarks and recent history will appear, swipe down and more options will show up. There should be a "Request Desktop Site". This will refresh the site and give you the full desktop version.

Nah, he didn't appreciate the all weather tires it had under it. He's obsessing about those at the moment. When we got home he said he likes the car because it has more doors than moms stupid car. He will spend years in therapy. Not because of cars.

Lol no, but after learning how to drive in my car, think what the 2004 toyota Camry will do to him? Its still 16 years from today but I can't wait. He gives me shit for driving girly cars. Mom is going to have the last laugh.

(Now watch I get banned.) EDIT: If you were referring to surfing on your phone, ABP might not be a solution. Although they do have an Android version. I use it on my Tab3. But it's a bit of a pain as it requires adjusting for every different wifi network you're on. But if you only use 4G or whatever your phone's service is, it should be set and forget.

I have to drive a rental Ford Focus SE while waiting for my F80 to un-glue itself from somewhere on the east coast. First world problems for sure.

Nailed it... I DO NOT think I can go back to Toyota ANYTHING after driving this car, and I used to think the world of my '99 Solara for the 5 years I had it. The new Avalon looks pretty legit, but still. European > Asian as of the moment.

I have nothing but respect for engineers of every continent, but I'm willing to bet that in 2031 when he can drive I'm not driving an F8x anymore and his car being older than him he will spend a lot of time under the hood trying to figure out why he needs a ride from mom again. That's what i did. Or more accurately walked to a buss station after giving up on the lovely lady I call mother. But damn I felt stupid while trying not to laugh while he was terrified of the tiny tires and the handy extra doors. I was an idiot when I bought a coupe.

It's been 2.5 years since I started this thread and defaulting to mobile sites is still as frustrating as ever!

Uhhh have you tried using chrome and requesting desktop site? Better than nothing at this point since you've been disappointed these past 2.5 years. Works well enough for me.

You can do the same thing via Safari. I'm talking about having an option to set the default to desktop version instead of it automatically going to the mobile version. It's just one of those little UX things that is super frustrating. It's not like we spend 99% of our time online on our mobile devices or anything.
