New Updates Coming

So yesterday I took the good ol' car in for a service. I have a excellent relationship with my dealer and we often chat around whats available w.r.t i-step etc

Interesting enough I was complaining about my Connected Drive Services not working i.e. internet, BMW Live, Widgets etc

He was saying that hey have been having so many issues with the last i-step that BMW told them to stop any updates. There is a scheduled update coming on the 27th of March that BMW has promised everyone that will fix a lot of the current issues that are being experienced.

He said in some instances with the SatNav Business they can't even load maps, some maps only load after the fourth try - BMW Technical says that's the fix for now (load until it works...)

So there seems to be a host of software bugs at the moment, when the 27th comes I have my car booked in for update to test.

I got a 2 Series tourer as the car for the day some interesting things I noticed:

1. Even on an AUTO when in Sport or Manual it shows you the gear shift (up or down) indicator - nice little feature. - Wonder if this is a Kombi software level or something else.

2. The reverse camera (and this was on the CIC) is much clearer and the warning images are clearer and more active... -- Wonder if this is a new PDC module or software or camera.

It will be interesting to see what happens as far as coding on this one. If the latest I-Level has caused so many issues then maybe they went back to using some of the older files and just made different fixes, but really thats just being optimistic which I typically am not.

Either way doesn't effect me, I am happily on the last IStep of 2014 and it's working great.

I'm getting the popcorn!

I wonder if the next update will turn into a SIB.

Agreed. I wonder if I can ask my dealer to not upgrade my car. I don't want to lose the ability to code.

Are you sure? Sometimes they will say its a "mandatory" upgrade and needs to be done to maintain the warranty. Either way I am going to ask.

I would call BS on that. Tell them you are experiencing nothing wrong with your car and you do not need it done.

Then ask them where in writing it says you MUST have your software updated to maintain warranty.

Any updates on this? I'm taking my car in on Friday for some minor Bluetooth connectivity issues (Spotify over BT doesn't change artist/track info) and likely looking for a firmware update so that I can get to the most recent software release on my 2014 F30. Thanks

You need UPD5062 update to resolve BT issues (can download and install yourself), however the dealer will need to update iDrive software first.

This iDrive update will remove any coding you have done, except VO (Enhanced Bluetooth, for example). Future coding is also unlikely.

Thanks! That is what I am looking for. I want to ensure the dealer is doing this right on the first trip. I have given them my symptoms but they are simply doing an I-Step update, correct? Anything I can point them too if they aren't sure exactly what to do to solve the issue or how/what to update firmware too? Just looking to make sure this is a one trip solution.

Also, I don't do any coding so not an issue for me!

Thx

I just told them Bluetooth wasn't working and that BMW helpline said needed an update. After they did it (for free), BT was still the same, so then tried UPD5062 and it behaved itself.

I did try the UPD beforehand but it failed with error saying something about it not being compatible with the car.

Mine is doing this, but I have a 02/15 build car, wouldn't these issues be resolved now?

Outstanding! That is just what I was looking for and what I found while searching the connected drive website. Much appreciated.

For anybody having the same problem, I've just done the UPD5062 even though my car is newer than the update itself, and it has solved the problem.

Nice information, I have big bluetooth issues, the connectivity is very bad and it interrupts the connection between phone and head unit. Only near the antenna the signal is good.

I have NBT Telephone Firmware: TN.002.038.015
I hope its old and an update may solve the problem.

Well, I had TN-002.045.001 before UPD5062 was applied; now have TN-2.255.60 -- BTW the same applied to MN (media)

Sure hope it helps you like it did me!

Has anyone updated to the latest I-Step and check if it still has trimmed CAFDs?

I'm unreasonably hopeful that the issues OP mentioned are related to CAFD trimming.

Do you know what coding mods can still be done?
