Rockford fosgate 10" and hifonics amp installed!
Ordered all my parts from sonic last weekend and got it installed today. Took me around 5hrs and it came out really clean. I chose the 10" sub because I was looking for clean bass. The amp is a master piece. Pushing out 450watts rms @4ohms and 1000rms @1 ohms for $130. Subwoofer is 500watts rms and it has plenty of bass (clean bass). I mostly listen to trance and some hip hop. As you can see in the picture, I still have lots of room left in the trunk another reason to go with a 10".
Sunwoofer is p3d2-10 if anyone is looking for a quality bass. I have it installed in a sealed box. |

Looks nice and probably sounds great, but I wouldn't wanna sacrifice my trunk space!

I used to own a 89 Prelude once upon a time.
had a HiFonics Zeus 5 Channel AMP. RF 12 Dual VC at 800watt RMS Rating. front were Hifonic zeus 6.5" components. Hifonics is probably the best Amp I ever Had and I had a a lot. Good set up. Bimmette, if you don't want to sacrafice trunk space.....look into FreeAir Subwoofers. DN |

Got a few questions for you OP as I'm considering doing something similar:
Did you change out speakers in the car as well? Are you using the OEM radio? How did you get signal to your amp? Line out converter? Technic harness? What about power for the amp? Just run a line to the battery in the trunk? Thanks in advance.

Yeah if you could post your wiring setup that'd be awesome..
Also, what kind of light is that in your trunk? Or are you using a filter on the image?? Thanks!

Hifonics of the late 80s and early 90s isn't remotely similar to today's Hifonics (that applies to every mid to semi high end car audio company that's still around from the golden era of car audio: Rockford Fosgate, JL Audio, Phoenix Gold, Hifonics etc... the others have folded altogether). These use to all be high quality American built with American sourced Mosfets/resisters/internals bullet proof first rate products. Back then high end audio was primarily produced in America with a few European companies (ex: MB Quart, Focal) sprinkled in for good measure. Names like ADS, Linear Power, Precision Power should ring a bell. They are ALL garbage now! Once the Chinese junk began saturating the market all these companies either cost cut by Chinese manufacturing inferior and lower end products to stay afloat or folded altogether. Shit like the orignal Punch 45 will never exist again. I still have a Hifonics Vulcan vintage 1991 in my garage in perfect condition that I would use any day over anything offered right now. Looks just like this one: |

Just a point on Hifonics. In the 90s new owners of Hifonics reduced it to garbage. But in 2001 Original owners bought the company back and I for one say holy shit talk about under rated power. Thanks for a flashback to the late 80s and early 90s with these pics. I was a Rodeck and Dr. Crankenstein fan.....hehehe. DN Last edited by BashShah; 04-02-2015 at 03:13 AM.. |

Folks in the AUDIO/VIDEO section would probably benefit from this info.
I remember the days of my youth, when I had everything from JL Audio to Kenwood to Alpine to Blauplunkt to Infinity in my shitboxes...car barely ran, but you could feel me coming from a mile away in your bones lol.. Now I have a Harman Kardon system with all the options in my ride, and I'm perfectly happy with it. Funny how tastes and priorities change over the years Maybe it is something to do with getting old...or needing every cubic inch of whatever trunk space I can use in my damn E93 |
