I also take the time to park like this but have found that regardless of how far away or carefully I park some a$$wipe will park close to my car even going over the lane divider line. I generally keep my car very clean and shiny. Maybe the gleam of the car catches their attention. Why is it always the rattiest car that snuggles up to your nice new car, WTF!
CHECK THIS OUT:

I also park like this, as close to the wall as possible, so that the other guy can almost open the door completely wide open without touching my car. And if possible on the spot which is far away.

Unfortunately, someone intentionally dinged me (hard enough to remove paint) despite parking like that. Only had the car for a month when it happened Wish I had a dash cam. |

There are some individuals who intentionally go out of their way to damage our nice cars out of sheer jealously and because they have NO CLASS, that's not a shot, it's true. People that do this are classless! Many of them believe they will never be able to afford a nice car. Whats crazy is that they don't understand that it's the malice that they carry in their hearts that prevents them from ever succeeding at anything positive in life WE NEED AN AMEN SMILEY

I see kids coming out of big SUVs all the time smash the door against the car parked next to them. I don't think it's intentional most of the time.

I always look for end spaces and/or park next to other nice, clean cars... And I also try to shop as early in the day as possible, typically when a store opens, to avoid the idiots who could possibly dent my car.

ill try not to sound like a jerk but this topic really makes my blood boil.
Firstly yes, I do all I can to avoid damages to my vehicle. In response to the door dingers.. Any good parent has the child locks on. Also if the kid is old enough to exit the car on their own in a parking lot, 10y and older, then it's the parent's fault for parking to close and not teaching their kids to be aware of other's property. All of these dings are done purposely, one way or another. Whether it's by adults intentionally not instilling care and respect for other's and their property in their children or by a jealous, careless or vengeful adult. These dings are always the cause of ones lack of respect and care for other's and their belongings. The day my little guy exits the car on his own he will be well aware of his safety and his responsibility for respecting other's property. Until then, the child locks are on until he understands. If I cant trust him to think while opening a door how can I expect him to stay in a safe location in a dangerous parking lot? I've had to many experiences with this situation... no excuse for this carelessness. |

The dent / scratch is on the rear panel so its definitely not from another vehicle's rear doors. Assuming they parked inside their parking space, there is no way a door would reach my car There were also plenty of spaces open. I think I was the only one in that row. |

Always, when possible...(also helps with getting in and out. lol) but being HK it's often hard to even find such spaces

Don't see why not - most carparks here are so cramped you might as well take advantage of wide spaces where you can
