Battery 7yrs old non AGM,Should I stick with stock

I have a 94r white non AGM battery.it has the sight glass to check.think I have been lucky long enough with 7yrs on it.i hear AGM is better then non AGM?Or should I stick with stock same battery. Then for registering? I have BT Cable.Any info from others that have done this or better options ? I searched and I got mixed advices. Some say just rest battery adaptation, some say don't. I would like the correct way to register one.Thanks.

The easiest way is to just replace the battery with the exact same type, and same cca/ah. Then all you do is use your BT cable to reset adaptations, which takes all of 20 seconds. If you change the capacity or the cell type, then you'd have to tell the car you did that.

I would just replace with the same battery that came out unless you live in really extreme climate/cold or drive very short trips or put excessive load on battery with upgraded radio or other accessories.
I'm still on original battery here, and only ran it low because of short trips and a cold winter, and once I charged back
It still works like a champ and my cars 6 years old.

Mines still going fine for me.But with 7yrs in afraid it will suddenly go.But when i change it ill probably stick with stock too,i can save weight with say a Braille or exide battery, but that comes at a price.to save 25lbs for the battery to last 2-3yrs i dont think its worth it.its not a track car.

If the OEM lasted 7 years, I see no reason NOT to buy another OEM.

Garage List
2008 BMW M3  [8.00]
2007 BMW 323i  [8.50]
I recently replaced mine with an OEM AGM. Had better specs than the non-AGM that came out, which I opted for given our Canadian cold winters and having aftermarket audio equipment.

Coding and registration necessary, but not difficult with the right tools/friends.

Traditional lead-acid battery (wet-cell) has slightly different charging voltage profile than AGM lead-acid batteries.

It isn't a huge difference (like 0.2-0.3 volts at most)... But given the stories I have seen that involve exploding unregistered batteries on the new BMW, I would not risk it.

Apparently the car can calculate the condition of the battery based on the last registration date and history of its current outputs, and using those information to vary the charging profile to compensate for the slight degradation of the cells over the years. A slight difference in voltage profiles of the standard wet-cell might be problematic for a system that is designed for AGM...
