Installed 8ft Privacy Fence
We've been in our home 14yrs this month. And even though the previous fence was still standing strong (mostly due to the couple of times I stained it), it was not my "dream fence". Well I am happy to say that I now have just that! Had it installed yesterday.
8ft x 6in Western Red Cedar Pickets 2 x 4 pressurized pine Rails 2 x 6 Top Caps 2 x 6 pressurized pine Baseboard 11ft galvanized steel Posts Wood was moist after install so we needed to wait on stain which I'm still debating on color...

Very VERY nice.
I WISH my HOA will approve 8ft fences. 6ft is max we can do. Currently my goal for this summer DIY is pressure wash the fences, and stain it.

What a 'labor intensive' project! Although I'm pretty handy, I can't even imagine trying to tackle this particular job: Tearing out the old posts and concrete, removing and hauling off all that prior material, making sure everything is level prior and during installation. There was a 5 man crew working non-stop all weekend.

Very nice. I would love to put one of those up around my property. The neighbor behind me put up a picket fence after we moved in though, lolz.

It's not huge but enough for a nice patio and plenty of grass area for my boys to play. The fence is right at 200ft long.

Our yards are separated by driveways and the alley so we have to put up our own.

Yeah, level is always the part I can't make happen, ESPECIALLY while drinking tequila
I prefer block walls with stucco to match the house. It's a lot more permanent, and I can walk the top to see what the neighbors are doing, with the pretext of finding my lost chickens. Try walking your balance beam top after a few tequilas!!! |

Looks really nice man. Exactly what I'm considering putting in at my new place once it's done being built.

Very nice.
I am in the process of a total yard fencing project - farm fence with 4 board slats on about 5 acres. Will likely have power driveway gates and block columns that butt up against the fence posts. I am doing most of the work myself (fence and gate install), but I am not an electrician. One of my co-workers ask me what exactly I planned to fence in the yard....I said "my privacy" |

That is one classy looking fence. It certainly can't hurt the property value.

(Kidding TXS) The fence looks amazing, why not keep it like that..or a little varnish/sealant to protect and keep it look wonderful? Last edited by Taskmaster; 05-06-2015 at 06:45 PM.. |

Not at all. I could see that being a legitimate question if you're not in a neighborhood where this is common place. Actually not only does it provide the obvious privacy, I find it beautiful to look at. Added bonus... It smells amazing! Like a giant cedar closet outdoors!
Also, I have several "metal art" pieces that will be going up after the stain. |

Interesting construction with the pipes as the main post verse 4x4s that should hold up nicely. Personally I always stain prior to putting it all together since I have seen fences rote at the surfaces which were covered and the stain would not get to those surfaces. I have done decks and fences this way in the past.

Having a fence like that installed on my property would cost more than my house did. Looks great!

Also the steel posts are MUCH more sturdier than wood posts and can withstand very strong winds as they are cemented 3ft under ground.

Kinda jealous. My HOA only allows split rail fences in our subdivision. I'd prefer a privacy fence at least in the back so you can plant foliage and have your own little oasis that doesn't feel surrounded by other homes.
