Anyone have the LG Shine (cellphone)?
I just ordered one and am curious to know what everyone thinks.
In particular, how does it hold up as a phone? Call quality, signal strength? Thanks in advance |

I was just looking at my friends on Saturday. She only had it for 2 days, but loved it thus far.

The reviews I read for the ATT version were fairly positive. Complaints were with the keys directly below the slider when open, the toggle key and the auto-lock feature. Speakerphone volume was also a negative.

I did play with it in the ATT store and can say that the auto-lock feature is annoying. Hopefully there is a way to disable.

I asked to see a working unit of the phone but they didn't have one......only a display model. I'll know much more in a few days when the phone arrives

If you want an aesthetically nice looking phone that makes/takes calls - it's awesome. What sold me on this phone was the weight it has. It just feels like pretty sturdy phone, but in reality it'll probably break on first impact.
Everything else feature wise is shit. - Signal strength is sub-par to what I'm used to. - Battery life blows. - Can't view the contacts list via in-car bluetooth (some people reported the phone wouldn't sync at all!) - Camera is the absolute worst in its class for a 1.3 Megapixel camera... no autofocus or anything... all the pictures come out blurry regardless of lighting. - The firmware is locked to the provider and there is no "debranding" method yet (probably never too) other then buying one outside of country that comes unlocked from the get-go. - Menu's are all over the place - takes a while to get used to. - The brushed aluminum battery case gets scratches VERY EASILY. - The screen is a pain to keep clean of finger prints and smudges. Honestly, this phone imo is no more then a 2/10.

ok, the signal strength sucks, i had a nokia 8801 before and decide to get something new with a better camera so i got the LG Shine, i thought that ATT signal was getting worst so i was gonna change to Sprint(i get employee discount) but i tried other phones before i made the change and i notice that its the phone that is bad signal not ATT. The camera is really nice with the flash and the MP3 with the transflash card is good. The phone is cool but because of the signal being so weak i decide to change and got an iphone. How much did you get the LG Shine for? Can you get a refund? If you want i'll get sell you mind for what $150 or something like that, i only used it for like a 2 months. O yea the battery hella sucks, i have to charge it everyday. so good luck. The person that post before me said its a 1.3 megapixel camera , but mine is a 2 megapixel and its already unlock.

There are two versions of the Shine. One for US with the 2MP camera and the older one for the rest of the world.

It seems there are mixed reviews on this. I appreciate everyone's feedback. Again, as long as this can be a reliable phone (not camera, MP3, etc.) then I'll be good to go. However, I have a 30-day return period so I hope all goes well. I have always charged my phones daily, so that's not an issue for me. As far as the signal strength is concerned, I assume Manhattan/NYC is a place where service providers have addressed this issue. Plus, I have TMobible now and I am under the impression that ANYTHING is better than what I currently have. I'll report back once the phone arrives tomorrow |

A friend just picked up the shine after his Moto Rizr died on him, and is actually taking it back to the AT&T store because he's terribly unhappy with it.
Basic issues are: -Battery life sucks -Call quality is mediocre (I often hear him fade in and out during calls) -Camera quality is sub-par -I personally do not like the "scroll wheel/trackball" thing for menus -Weak signal strength -His turns off randomly throughout the day (possibly specific to his) -Low text message memory (even with microSD card) All in all I'm becoming less satisfied with AT&Ts selection of phones. The only ones I'd currently consider purchasing are the Blackberry Curve or the iPhone. For now I'm fine with my unlocked/unbranded Samsung U600 (aka Ultra Edition II 10.9)...but I havent had a branded AT&T phone in years.

thanks to all for the feedback.
I just got the phone on Friday and it's very nice. I've been using it pretty heavily over the weekend (like I usually do) and I'm impressed with the sound/call quality. I haven't tinkered with all the bells and whistles yet, however I'm pleased thus far. |
