Want to borow a DEALER plate NYC/LI
If anyone in the NYC/LI area has a dealer plate that they are not using at the moment and would allow me to borrow it for a few days it would be much appreciated. I know it is a large request but maybe there is someone out there with one. I just finished getting my Porsche ready to be back on the road and I don't have a title yet (it's going through the paces at the DMV and it can take some time). I am going crazy wanting to drive it, but I am stuck at the moment. It is just sitting in my garage begging to be driven. So if there is anyone who can help me out please please let me know. If you don't want to respond here please PM me. Thanks. Justin

Technically not legal. So not a great recommendation.
And I think they have cameras on the cars that match the plates constantly and alert them...bc I tried that once and I was just pulling out of a side street, cop going the other way, I passed him (he would have seen my plates for no more than 10 seconds, not nearly enough to memorize it and input it), he did a Uturn and came after me for bad plates. And no, I was not speeding or doing something else. So I can only conclude they must have a camera constantly feeding the plates it sees into a computer and alerting them if there's a mismatch. |

Here if you don't have a title it can't be registered, and if it isn't registered then you cant get insurance on it.

Well it is being reverted from a dedicated track car to street/track car, so I will. But for now it sees the street.

i hate to say it but you're really putting your car and self at risk by fudging it. it seems simple but they might take it serious. getting your plates ran or pulled over can lead to a lot of problems. sometimes bad choices and bad luck go hand and hand.
gosh i feel old now. i likely would not be typing the same message just ten years ago.

I work with one of those LRP systems. Typically, it compares the plate with Stolen, Wants/Warrants, and MAYBE a local scofflaw file. The cameras typically don't have vehicle recognition, even if they had access to DMV model info.

I have never heard of that, and I was working with some at the DMV. I told them I needed this done asap and they said this was the only way.

Unfortunately the car has not been registered in like 15 years so there is no record of the title at the DMV so the title had to be "purged" in Albany and it could take a month.
