Dinan Oil Cooler

I just brought my 2008 335xi into the dealer today to have the ECU reprogrammed with the Dinan engine software. I have two questions:

1) how can i be assured that I have the stock oil cooler (i have the sports package, so does this mean I should have it?)

2) i noticed on the dinan website that they recommend upgrading to the dinan oil cooler even if one has the stock oil cooler. does anyone know if this actually makes a difference? can I seriously damage my car if i stick with the stock oil cooler?

Thanks - any help would be greatly appreciated!

You dont need to upgrade so dont worry about that.

To make sure you have it look in the front passanger wheel well and you should see it....

Also, because you have a 2008 335i w/sport package I am 100% positive that you do have it.

Enjoy the tune and keep us updated!

If you wanna be really helpful do a before and after dyno....

You said since I have the 335i, you're sure I have the oil cooler...but I actually have the 335xi...does this make any difference?

LOL, sorry....

Let me rephrase.... Since you have a 2008 335i/xi with the sport package you are going to have the oil cooler....

You have the additional oil cooler. No need to upgrade to the Dinan one. I didn't have one, so I bought the Dinan oil cooler kit because it was cheaper than adding the OEM one.

You should be fine.

Thanks for the info. I do have the 18" wheels, so I guess I'm good. I'll let you all know how it drives when I get it back on Thursday

Oil cooler lines visible in the engine bay on N54:

Or look in the forward area of the front passenger side wheel well for the actual cooling unit.

Oil cooler upgrades would only be advantageous for those running high boost and/or tracking their vehicles.

If you find your car exceeding the 250 degree mark on your oil temp throughout daily driving there is a problem and it doesnt have to do with getting an upgrade.
