help, front deiveshaft, rear universal joint all busted

I installed my downpipes today on my 07 335xi and noticed the front driveshaft universal joints were messed up pretty bad. Explains the massive clunking i was getting reverse to forward or vice versa, and maybe the little sputter i get from cruising speed to acceleration.

Are the joints replaceable or do i have to replace the whole shaft?

Check ECSTuning, I'm not familiar at all with that issue, but I know you're not the first person I've seen have issues Xi related with higher power.

They sell shafts for $700. I have already found them for half that. I cant find just the u-joint witch makes me think they are non replaceable.

BMW sells the "U joints" by themselves; although it may not be what you're after:

When I look at the part diagram, I'm not sure it's exactly what you're looking for though as they seem to be calling something else a universal joint and it doesn't look like what's traditionally considered a universal joint.

If that's the case the drive shaft above should give you the ability to have servicable U joints moving forward.

Pull it off you can drive without it. Takes 30 mins. Then bring it to a driveshaft repair place they can fix the joints for 300$ (Canadian prices)

Lol. Old thread revival.

Just busted that same shaft on the highway. Wow. What a noise.

Can i actually pull it out and go just rwd? Won't the splines come out and dump my oil?

Yes you can, make sure to unplug the transfer case actuator tho. I pulled mine to figure out if it wa the front driveshaft or not and didn't notice much difference. Ended up being my axles but I put in a new/used front shaft. I have to other one of you want it we could work something out. Are you lowered?

So, at the time of the incident i noticed some leakage under the car, i thought it was air conditioning condensation.

Now I've been driving it a few days, i found a little spot of oil under the car. Very clean, clear, light oil.

Front diff leaking? What you all think?
