IMO, they need to build it on the cayman chassis and put a 911 style body on it and call it good. If done right, it would look almost exactly the same, but compete with the latest offerings that have better wight distribution. I realize that's heresy, but they have to keep making the car wider and wider every year and resorting to other extreme measures to keep it competitive. At some point, it's better to throw in the towel IMO. I know, it's sacrilege to suggest elimination of the faux rear seats for trunks, but the handling and performance would be worth it IMO. I'm way more excited about the cayman gt4.

Sorry but the GT3/RS are still better handling cars than the Cayman and anything else out there short of a hyper car.
Would the Cayman possibly be better with the GT3 engine, maybe, but there is an inherently naturally perfect balance when you are actually driving a 911, that is why they are so fast on the track. There's a reason why the 911 is the most successful race car in history, and by a lot. It's because they know what they are doing and the suspension geometry, suspension tuning and dampening are the best of any production car ever built.

I don't agree. A z28 is faster around a track than a 911 turbo s, which costs around 2.5 times as much. Why? Better chassis, or maybe more accurately, a chassis that is easier to make fast because it's better balanced. If they spend as much on the cayman and tuned it the same as the gt3/rs, it would be faster than the 911 based car.

Below is a link and the times on track of a Z28 vs the Turbo S. The turbo S is faster on all but two. And given that the Z28 is a pure track car that comes with R compound tires, and the turbo S a GT car with Pilot Super Sports, not nearly as good on track as an R compound, the 911 turbo S would be faster on all, and ever faster on the 6 out of 8 it handily beats the Z28 on.
The 911 turbo S is one of the easiest cars to drive fast, thats also why in the recent Evo comparo, it handily beat the 458 Speciale around the track despite weighing 200 lbs more and having 40 less hp. The GT3 is a much more capable track car and also VERY easy to drive.
Again, the 911 platform is very balanced when actually driving it. It is also more rewarding to drive. Just listen to any review of Chris Harris in saying there's NOTHING better in any car ever made than a 911 at the limit because its so balanced and for lack of a better word, perfect. It just takes a slightly different way of driving than a front engined car. I've owned both a 911 and Cayman and when it comes to 991 chassis, it is still the better chassis than the 981 chassis.
Again, the 911 has been dominating racing for 50 years with the same philosophy as the street cars, so there really isn't anything to say about that. It is simply the best. I am also not saying the Cayman might not be as good or better, but the 911 with the engine moving forward each generation, it will become mid engined eventually even though they might not actually call it that.

You really can't compare stock Z28 with 911 TTS because the Z28 is running on 305 Trofeo Rs all around and the 911 is running on PSSs. These tires are night and day in terms of traction. Porsche said themselves that the 911 TTS is actually quicker than the GT3 with PSC2 tires. The Z28 is impressive but the 911 TTS really is even more impressive.

Sorry but this is completely false. The mid engine Cayman is always going to be better handling than the rear engine 911. Porsche purposely underpowers the Cayman to keep it from taking away 911 sales.

I don't agree if we are talking about a GT3 vs any Cayman. A Cayman S/GTS vs a 991S, yes its close. I have owned both 911's and a Cayman S, and the handling of a GT3 is still on a level that the cayman cars couldn't match.

Read that. That is proof that the GT3 is still at a level the Cayman S is not. Again, in theory what you're saying is correct, but the the 911 has distinct advantages that no other car set up car will have. Ferrari's mid engined cars, while good handling were up until the 458 very twitchy and ragged on the limits of traction. The Cayman's qualities of handling are better than those but it will still lose out to e GT 911.

This is the 991 Model... the GT3 RS 4.0 was the 997 version (older).
