Strong fuel smell in cabin on first start up of the day...

Seriously the smell of petrol is so bad through the front air vents first thing in the morning that I have to open the windows to vent the car...

Fan switched off / no a/c on
No passengers in the back

It lasts about a minute.
It can happen on subsequent start ups but it is not as bad.
It is worse when the ambient temperature is below 18 degree Celcius

Any ideas appreciated...

No drips on the floor. Will try to remove engine cover on weekend to have a look.

Thanks

my bet is on leaking injectors....they ''drip'' a little bit over night and you got unburned fuel on morning start...check your plugs and you should have one or more that become black so you know which injector is leaking !!

Lucky guy, nothing wakes you up more then the smell of petrol in the morning.

I had the same issue with my first BMW, 1999 316i Compact (dont laugh). Never got to the bottom of it im afraid, one thing i tried was steam cleaning the engine bay and then inspect it for any leaks.

I've had it on occasions when starting with windows or doors open but never in the cabin. Just poor combustion on a cold start in my case I think.

I wonder if you can read off any codes?

mon frère was right. Leaking injector. Don't have code as the dealer read the codes. Injector on bank six replaced. I asked about having them all done but the replacement part is set to work with the existing ones. Merci
