Replacing Injectors, question tho?

So my car is at the dealer right now undergoing a service diagnostic and they told me "you need to replace your injectors" which basically tells me that one or possibly two is bad and they just want to replace all of them.. Question is, if I find out that it is only one or two, can I just replace that one or two, or should I replace all of them, or even just 3 at a time..?? Also if I were to replace them can I have 3 on one index and 3 running a different index..?? Is this what the coding takes care of..??

Thanks!

If you have rev -10 or higher you can do one at a time but I would just do the entire bank (3)

People have done just 1 injector many times, if it's coded in you should be OK. However BMW recommends replacing the entire bank, not just 1 injector.

Hit the nail on the head. If the injectors in that bank have an index lower than 10 and you're putting the new injectors in you're supposed to change a whole bank but some people say eff that and do 1 and no one has reported anything negative.

Thanks for the great feedback guys.. I have a lot of financial responsibilities coming within the next week or so, my grandmother just got really ill and it's on my shoulders so if I can just do one for now that'd be awesome..

I appreciate it, hopefully some of those guys who've done this can chime in.. Now I just have to find out how to I identify the faulty injector, not sure if BMW will tell me this when I pick it up today... I assume it would be the darkest or cleanest spark plugs..??

Just ask them which injector(s) are bad and tell them you are on a tight budget so you'd like to replace the minimum necessary to drive the car safely.

They typically want to replace at least 1 bank of 3. You can theoretically just replace 1 so as long as it's coded correctly.

Yeah I don't imagine them totally tryna stiff me, but my SA doesn't seem like he's in a great mood.. On top of that I brought it in for the advertised $59.99 Diagnostic and he told me I owe $145..! I argued the fact, and he said they couldn't complete the diagnostic without ordering some vacuum hose and some other plug inside the valve cover..?? I'm done with this day already..

If I have -10 injectors, and I found a -10 for sale, would I still need to code it and all that..??

Thanks for ur input Jeff..!

Regardless of index, all injectors must be coded, for proper operation.

Yes there's two numerical values on each injector that must be coded. I've yet to see injectors with the same numbers. I forget what they are, flow and electrical impedance or something.

Best way to find out the leaky Bastard is start it up cold after it's been sitting for awhile. Let it idle like 5-10 seconds, then turn it off. Find the cleanest plug or the one that reeks the most of fuel and thats your B!&CH

They can replace one and code it. But when one injector fails, this is a sign that they are all on their way out. I would do at least a bank of 3 injectors.

They seem pretty reputable, a lot of you guys shop there I assume..?? For $110 I may just buy three and go from there.. I just watched the YouTube video on installing and coding them and it seems pretty straight forward.. Now I just need an OBD K+DCAN cable that works.. I wonder if they are still in upwards of $100 for a good working one..?? I emailed Carly from BMWHAT to see if their OBD cables work for INPA as well as BMWHAT coding, but I haven't gotten a response yet...

Also, can I reuse the little fuel line that is connected to the injector..??

Awesome, thanks brother.. I'm ordering them today, just ordered spark plugs as well.. A buddy of mine is letting me use his spark plug socket and also his K+DCAN cable so hopefully by next weekend I'm back in business..!! I found that DIY Fuel injector coding thread on here, wow what an amazing writeup..! The only issue I may have is that I have a Macbook Pro, and I'm running Windows via VMWARE and I didn't have success with INPA before on that same setup, but I assumed it was a faulty K+DCAN cable..
