Really Dumb Tire Size Question
Hi,
I have a 2014 F30 that came with 225/50 17 tires all around. Am getting ready to change the tires out very soon and do not want to change the rims. Ran across Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position RFT tires and they really like they'll fit my needs well. Having said that, however, I can not find them in the size that I currently have on my car, rather I have found 225/45 17 and 225/55 17 tires. My questions are:
Thank you very much

both of those sizes you're going to have around a -/+3% error...stay away from those sizes. Try other brands

Beaucoup thanks!! So this means car's speed will be under/overstated by 3% -- is that what the error represents? Again, appreciate your assistance

Yes that is correct, some ppl say 2% error is the threshold. You just don't want to be too far off, you'll wear out your tires faster.
There's different combinations of staggered tires you can get to be around 1-2% if you go that route; doesn't necessarily have to be a squared setup. |

Too add; basically, you'll need new wheels also.
With your car having the base suspension, try to avoid the urge to get carried away with Ultra High Performance Summer rubber. Unless you have a Sport tuned or modded suspension, the Pole Positions would be overkill anyway. You can go for some good rubber, most don't come in your stock size because it's not a performance size. If you move up in Wheels and go with some 18s, take a look at Hankook Ventas. Very good tire, not too expensive.

WP7778 & RollTide32,
Very much appreciate both of your responses -- intuitively, I thought that to be the case. While staying with run-flats, am trying to get better tire life, but still have good handling. Will probably go with Bridgestone DriveGuards, as they seem to have about the right combinations -- even though I may be abandoning my long-standing (and I mean, long!) tradition of going with Michelins Again, thank you very much
