Average mpg reset to 99.9mpg!

Hi,

suddenly the average mpg jumped from my 25.8 to 99.9! I assume is just a software issue or something, but should I worry? Something else is coming? Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

thanks

The average? Or what it estimates the car is consuming that second? If it's a latter, then it's normal.

Did you reset the average while going downhill? I've done that and it will read 99.9 but will quickly drop back to a more reasonable figure. I don't know how you could reset it without knowing you're resetting it, though. If it happens again spontaneously I'd suggest a trip to your friendly neighborhood BMW dealer's service center. It could be a computer register flaking out or loose connection somewhere. I'm guessing at that but computers are known to do things like this.

No, I didn't reset (unless accidentally). And it's not re-setting to reasonable numbers... Not that I care too much per se, but as you said it might get the start of something else .
I have an appointment scheduled for beginning of march and I'll have it checked... Thanks!

o...ya i'd bring it in, it could be a software update that you'd get. or you could try and disconnect the battery and do a master reset of the computer. just a suggestion...

Sounds like the fuel flow transducer input to the trip computer went ti&$ up. Computer obviously thinks the fuel flow is 0 which means mucho mpg! Time for a visit to your friendly local BMW service advisor. (No hurry. If everything else seems fine, should be no issue in delaying the check. Just don't use the trip computer to figure when to stop for gas!)

Your units are km/L. (Rarely used) Metric fuel consumption units are usually expressed in L/100km. What most others are using is mpg. 6.8km/L = 16miles / US gallon.

My mpg was stuck at 20.1 mpg...LOL. Last week, I got that 99.9 mpg reading. I reset three times today and each reset gave me a wide range of mpg from 57 mpg to a low of 30 mpg. When I turned off the car, it was at 37 mpg. I give up.
