I'm wondering if anyone has done any weight reduction on the car? what did they change and how much weight was shed.

Thanks.

That's easy. Order your car with no options, except the moon roof delete option. After that, remove all of the seats, except the driver's seat. And so on. Strip it bare. Remove the badges and the BMW buttons on the wheels. There's just no end to what can be stripped out of the car. A/C, heater, stereo system and on and on. Heh! Make it a total track car.

Kidding aside, only you can decide what amentities you don't want.

Garage List
You should weigh one of your Vossen wheels (without a tire mounted). You'll be shocked at how much they weigh. My guess is they weigh north of 24 lbs each.

For reference, my APEX wheels weigh 18.5 pounds each. That makes a big difference for handling and acceleration. It does nothing for top speed though.

Thanks. I'm definitely going to purchase a lighter set of wheels. Besides the obvious drastic "gutting" wasn't sure if folks are replacing parts like hood, trunk, fenders, etc... and what kind of weight they were able to shed.

its a vague question..

I know some people on the E9x like to put a carbon fiber hood and trunk for a bit of weight reduction. Usually painted as a lot of people like to keep the classiness of these cars. I'm not sure if they make any for the the 2 series!

I'm not a fan of aftermarket hang on parts. They never ever fit properly.

In terms of weight loss, I'd stick to wheels, back seat delete if you don't use them, exhaust (tend to be heavy from factory )

Battery is probably an easy way to cut a bunch of weight.

What about the balance of the car in shaving weight? Didn't BMW put the battery in the rear for the sake of balance? Just taking the battery as one example...

Removing any weight is going to change the weight balance.

Lighter wheels usually have a great impact on performance, since wheels are unsprung weight on the car. Weight shaved on the outside (wheels and tires), makes the biggest difference.

Any news on an F22 specific EC-7 fitment? David@ApexRaceParts

Yes obviously I was just pointing out that's a variable as well in the weight reduction mission. BMW has gone through painstaking methods to try and give us 50/50 so I'm wondering how it affects driving dynamics when upsetting that balance.

Same as adding weight (luggage, passenger, overweight driver, the way you position your seat and yourself, empty vs full tanks, etc.). You're not going to have that "perfect" balance anyway. If you get a hood that's lighter than stock it won't hurt anything much if at all.

I don't think BMW spent too much time trying to figure out some "perfect" balance in this car, either. If that had been the case, you'd probably have different suspensions for different gearboxes, take into equation staggered setup vs square, leather seats with electronic settings vs regular seats, sunroof vs no sunroof, etc. as all of that changes the weight balance. That is just not feasible.
