Can anyone help with the deaded DSC/ABS module-pump failure?

The common DSC/ABS failure has happened to my 335i

I'm pulling codes D356, D355, D354, 5DF0 and 5DF1,

From reading the threads on this I believe my DSC pump has failed

Looks to be a very expensive fix so I guess I have a few options,

either send my unti out to be repaired, or buy a used but working unit and swap them out,

Now I have a few questions,

On my pump I have part number 3451-6778484
That doesn't seem to come up on any website

The last 7 of my VIN are P155171 which shows from Real OEM that I need par number 34506777164

Are these not interchangable with all years (07-10 pre LCI) or do you HAVE to have the one for your build year and model?

and can I just swap the pump only and keep my own module so I don't need to visit the dealer for recoding? I have coding tools and have done a little coding (amber deletes, etc) but never anything like this,
Is home coding available for this?

Sorry to ask so many questions but I don't know any BMW specialists local I could ask about this and rather do my own work than bring to dealers

You can use one of these. As you can see they are exchangeable.

34506777164 - Hydro unit DSC
34506777160 (03/01/2007 — ), Bilaterally exchangeable
34516780235 (12/01/2006 — 10/24/2007), Bilaterally exchangeable
34516779891 (09/01/2006 — 07/23/2007), Bilaterally exchangeable
34516778486 (06/01/2006 — 04/22/2010)

To swap the unit you have two options:
1. replace whole unit including ECU. You will need: a. code it, b. initialize
2. keep your ECU by swapping it. You will need: a. initialize

As far as coding can it be done at home with INPA?

For some reason the part numbers I have/need are the more pricey ones, Isn't that bloody typical

I'm wondering now because mines now intermittent, the lights on the dash come on, and for no reason go off, So I wanted to look into the diy of fixing your own one and it might not be failed,

Thinking of giving it a try

How would I know if its the pump or the module?

I can't believe BMW didn't issue a recall on this seeing as there is so many people suffering with it,

and why SO many different part numbers for this thing over the years?
I've done some research and found that the xi pump wont fit the RWD's,

So I can use any unit built for a RWD E90/92 made from 06-08 right?

The more I'm reading about this problem the more I think that its the faulty contacts on the motor not touching correctly like the DIY,

I've watched a few vids from the BMW motorcycle guys having the same issue,

How do you check it? My suggestion is to wrap on the Bosch electric motor with a wooden handle to see if you can free one of both stuck brushes. If that happens you can be pretty sure it is the gummy material on the graphite brushes.
I replaced the entire unit reusing the electronic module and just reinstalled bled the brakes and cleared the codes done. I think disassembled my Bosch POS electric motor and sure enough one brush was stuck back. I just cleaned it all off and I assume if I need it that I can redo this in another 50000 miles and clean them again. You have a 2007 so Modulemasters will not touch your unit. Too bad because they are misinformed on that unit not being repairable since it is almost identical to the 2008 units. I don't know what the differences are.
If you are handy you can do this pretty easily. I took the unit out of the BMW and had the motor out in an hour and a half taking my time.
I have yet to see any failure other than the Bosch electric motor so I am pretty sure you can reuse your electronic module as is with no reprogramming. Mine is a 2007 and I did what I posted above and that was a year or longer ago...

Contact these guys: http://modulemaster.com/rebuilds/

I had the same issue and sent my unit to them to be rebuilt. They do a very good job and it comes with a warranty against future failure. They will be able to identify from pictures/numbers exactly what you have and can confirm that they can fix it and then quote you a price. It only takes a few days in their shop so the overall speed is up to how much you want to pay for shipping both ways (they are in Idaho).

Cool thanks guys,

My MY is 2008 not 07 so they might repair it,

I'll contact them before trying to fix it myself and get an idea on price and turnaround

This might be something I live with for now until I go on vacation next month and the car will be down for a week anyway

If you can live without DSC and cruise fine. I can't but I thought yours was a 2007. Since it is a 2008 MM is pretty cheap like 250-300 bucks last time I checked.
You have a 50K car and there are things to go cheap on but this isn't one of them...
If you are ever in an accident you are totally screwed because you have a known problem and ignored a safety feature meaning DSC and antilock brakes. Your car your choice but don't overlook your liability of not getting this corrected.

What did you end up doing with this?? I'm having the typical trifecta of ABS/Brake/DSC lights on the dash as well. I am looking at sending my unit to MM in about a week or two.....

I went the module masters route on my 07' a few months ago and couldn't be happier. I sent it overnight to them to arrive on Friday and had it back the following Wednesday. No coding. You just bolt it back on and flush. I did the flush via INPA and it was fairly easy, especially since I was by myself and didn't have any help. There is also a command in inpa to vibrate the unit itself to get the bubbles out.
