Sunroof seal
The sunroof seal on my car looks white now, I think it has been scrubbed heavily by some sort of polishing machine...doesn't look like the natural color fade out due to the sunlight.
Anyway, I am planning to replace a new one. There is a discussion here for the replacement DIY: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=594387 Just wonder who has done this before? anything need to pay attention to particularly? |

I would try using some liquid-based products to restore the original colour before attempting a seal replacement. Look for a Meguiars or Mothers product at Super Cheap Auto (eg 'back to black')
edit: or even shoe shine haha |

To clean window seal rubbers etc use a clean rag and metho.
This shall remove most of the polish. To add some depth to the seal I treated my sunroof seal and windscreen seal with the dodo juice trim sealant. The trim sealant is rather difficult to apply and is very sticky like a lacquer. It isn't really a consumer based product and would be classified as a detailers pro use in my opinion (you have to prep the seals first, then correctly mask off on paintwork to avoid the trim sealant from contaminating the paint as it dries hard like a clear coat) Albeit once it dries it made the seals look a million times better! https://www.carcareproducts.com.au/p...l_trim_sealant It comes in gloss or satin. P.S I've used mothers back to black and it looks great when 1st applied albeit its only a temporary sacrificial layer like say tyre shine, and after one or two washes it's gone. |

this is how the sunroof seal on my car looks like.
I think the seal is damaged rather than having substance like wax residue, those black fiber is scrubbed off. or the Mother black to black still can fix? |

I've done it on an E46 before which is basically the same. It is pretty straight forward, a tip could be to get a pencil and mark around the screw holes to help you line it back up again.

It seems like it comes in a strip and need to seal it by myself. Also, do I need to use any glue to stick it along the edge of the sunroof? Last edited by CYL; 08-29-2015 at 12:15 AM.. |

It is a straight strip from memory. I did it some years and 3 cars ago, it just pushes in.
