Crankshaft seal sealing compound.
Hey all, Im in the middle of replacing my crankshaft seal on my 07 n54 and im wondering if there is an alternative I can use to the expensive loctite 128357 the bmw manual says to use...
I find it a little ridiculous that it costs almost $80, when all it is is a sealant. Thanks! |

It's cheap compared to tearing down the engine again to reseal the bedplate if your choice of sealant doesn't work.
You don't want anything to add any thickness between the bedplate and the block, since this will increase crank bearing tolerances. Wurth makes flange sealants that can be used on various machined case covers, but I don't know how effective it will be. I use the sealant and curing liquid because I know it works, and in the long run, it's not that expensive.
