Humming Vibration noise

I was driving on this really smooth road the other day, so smooth that virtually all tire noise disappeared but because of this I could now hear a humming vibration(it was pretty loud). The road was also wet. On roads that aren't that smooth, this doesn't happen though I may just not be hearing it because of the usual tire noise, noise due to other bumps etc. Does anyone know what this is?
