Unhappy Unlucky day for my new car. Very bad scratch

I was at a parking lot pulling the car out. And suddenly I felt a bump. I immediately backed out and came out to check what happened.

The floor slab was a little too low I didn't see it. It gave a very deep scratch on my right side front bumper. It was heart breaking

The more frightening is the side of the tire got brushed and it chipped a little bit.

I am considering anything from DIY to taking it into a body shop. Can't afford too much money for this, if you have ANY suggestion or did this type of work before please comment and let me know.

I never did a paint job, if any other threads that you know of had similar problem please post the links here.

Be careful out there. Check out for low lying cements slabs.

Not bad.
Just wait till the times right to take it to a reputable body shop.

I don't see the tire ( wheel ? ) chip.

I never heard of this tire manufacturer. I was expecting Michelin or Goodyear. Do you guys also have same tires for all season ones on 228s ?

Wheel is an easy fix, your dealer should have a wheel guy that comes once a week. For the paint if I were you I'd throw some Dr Color Chip on for the winter and deal with it come spring. When you do ask your body shop, there's "fixed fixed" and what my shop likes to call "lease fixed" which they did on my Touareg way back when, much worse than yours and charged me $75. Especially that low on the bumper you don't necessarily need concours level work.

BEM-S4 Little bit relieved about the tire. Thanks for the suggestions about the paint. I will ask about it.

You..you've never heard of Pirelli? They supply all tires to Formula 1 just to give some perspective on their reputation. So if you are concerned with knock off tires on your car, worry no more. As for the scratch, it's not that bad but bad enough where you'll need a professional to fix it.

Meant chip on wheel is easy. Tire tough to tell from photos but looks like you're screwed on that one unfortunately.

MrBones93 Pardon my ignorance. Thanks, looks like I will have to buy a new tire anyway. I am too cautious to experiment on the paint job. Thinking of letting a professional handling it.

BEM-S4 : Just one more thing. Any particular reason to wait until Spring rather than doing the paint job in the winter ?

Nothing other than when there's snow on the ground and covering obstacles (i.e. curbs you're likely to hit) there's a better chance of doing it again.

Check with the dealer. Pirelli is one of the manufacturers that insists you cannot repair their run-flat tires under any circumstances and has a pretty decent warranty on replacement costs as a result. If it's under a year old and not worn much, they'll cover it fully. If it's over a year old or partially worn, they pro-rate it based on tread wear. In fact, reading the warranty makes one think about going outside and driving nails into all 4 tires every few months.

Now, I know their warranty is valid in the event of a puncture. I'm not sure if it would apply in the event of a sidewall cut, but it sure looks like it and it's worth the time to check. You will need to cover mounting no matter what, but that's only going to be $20 - $25.

Note it says "road hazard". Some companies don't consider a curb to be a "road hazard". Some prudence in describing what happened on the warranty form may be indicated.

Here's a screenshot from the Pirelli website (https://www.pirelli.com/tires/en-us/...ire-warranty):

Sorry to hear about this. I'm of the school of thought that you should do this right. It's a $40k car. You should get it fixed correctly. That means taking it to a good body shop and getting the front bumper cover refinished and painted. They should also be able to send the wheel out to a group that will refinish the rim. Waiting for the winter to be over is not a bad idea at all. I never like taking new paint onto salty and sandy roads.

You're also not supposed to wash you car for I think 30 days after getting paint work done, would be tough to run in through the car wash to get the salt off and not wash the bumper. I don't do auto wash in the summer but in the winter it's lesser of two evils, better than leaving salt on paint indefinitely.

I wasn't sure if you realized it's a completely plastic part, so no downside (corrosion) from waiting in addition to the less harsh environment.

Zooks527 Thank you so much for the information. I will see what I can do with the warranty claim. I hope it goes through, I have only 400 miles on the car.

It may be dangerous to live like that, if the warranty doesn't come along, I will probably buy a new tire.

merlin3008 Thinking the same. For all the suggestions you guys gave me. I am thinking of going to handle it by a professional. Or just put on some easy fix by myself for the winter and save some money and get it done right in the spring.

Painting a bumper is realatively easy. There are bumper repair places near me that will do it for about $100 and the do not remove the bumper.

@DanG: I am located in Charlotte, NC. Looks like you are from Seattle..

I have started searching for body shops in this area. Thanks for the information though.

What you need to do is ask the service department on where they get bumpers fixed. It is usually a mobile fixer and not a regular body shop.
