Is This The Lost 1949 Veritas?
Post WWII Germany produced some interesting remanufactured BMW 328's which were used in competition. These cars were known as the VERITAS. In 1981 Henry Manney III did a Salon of Gerry Sutterfield's 1949 Vertias (Rennsport). In the article he mentions that one of the eight or so cars built had come to America and was owned by Bob Grier before disappearing. This particular Vertias sits in a corner of the Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley NC, un-noticed by most visitors. While well known to American motorcycle enthusiasts, WTT is often overlooked by us car guys. Do any of our BMW historians know anything about this link to BMW's post war racing heritage?

That is a very interesting Veritas! The engine is definitively a BMW unit from the early years(30's & 40's). Nice find!!

Ha, as soon as I opened the thread I was going to suggest calling Carini for more insight. They did a very nice series on those cars, he lost out on this particular one at an auction in IL then bought another one later on. He let it go to his motorcycle buddy (who bought it for the museum) and then helped Wayne "restore" a bike he purchased. I say "restore" because they got it running and that was it, believe it actually stays at the museum.

Wayne Carini is one of the luckiest on earth what a business what a life, I like the show a lot! I do find the Veritas very challenging design wise.

If Ralph Lauren ever exhibits his care again I'd def suggest checking those out. Cars of similar era but gorgeous stuff, race pedigree, etc.

cb804- That is a very interesting picture of the Spohn Veritas. That appears to be Dale Walksler standing in front of the car but photo is not taken in the WTT Museum. Was this taken at the auction when he purchased it?

That photo was from 2011. Yes, that was Dale. At the time the car was at the Lee Hartung Auction in Glenview, IL. I believe it sold for $195,000.
