Can't get the beast up the driveway
Well we had a pretty good icing over here in Charlotte yesterday. Today I decided to work in the garage so I eased the car out of the garage onto the driveway....very very slowly. Well when I tried to stop the car just slid backwards all the way down and into the street. Well to make a long story short....I got tired of busting ice that was a solid 2in thick so never got it back into the garage. It sleeps outside tonight

Haha, this brings back memories. My parents used to own a 2007 MB E320 CDI. A heavy RWD diesel (3.0l V6) with automatic transmission. Their driveway was very steep. Whenever it snowed they could not get the car up the driveway in any way lol. Just endless spinning.
They had to clean the entire driveway and part of the street before it went anywhere xD

Yep, and no matter which setting I used if the ecu sensed any weird slipping it intervened. I tried all the settings. With it off I could get the tire spinning but when I tried to creep it seemed to know better
Later today I will get out and bust up the ice with a hammer since that wimpy snow shovel was worthless. That is how I got it up out of the street, chipping slots in the ice |

Yep...I live near the speedway and mine sits in the garage. Your incline of your
driveway is about the same as ours. I was not going to even attempt it. |

Had a similar issue last year, even steeper hill. Salt truck dumped a ton of salt that gave me enough traction to get going. May be worth a shot before you break out the hammer.

Sorry, just confirm, even with the DSC turned off that car is still limiting what you can do? I know some cars don't let you turn the electronic nannies off fully, but I kind of thought/hoped on our cars we could.

My driveway is steeper than this and I made it up with ice/snow covering the whole driveway. All I did was what was posted above (pressing and holding the DSC button). I put the car in first and hammered down. Eventually crawled my way back up.

They barely would work on dry pavement at those temps! You're lucky not to be in a ditch!
You did well to get as far as you did! I guess where you live, winter tires don't make long-term sense.

Reminds me of the early 90s when my father took my jeep away from me every winter at college so he wouldn't have to drive his 3 then 5 series in the snow. I had to walk in the snow for groceries. I understand now. Of course I live where it rarely snows too

Exactly......I don't know what I was thinking when I backed it out of the garage onto the driveway. Guss I need to give gravity more respect

Also keep in mind Michelin's warning that PSS should not be used below 45 degrees F due to possible tire compound cracking and that, if such cracking occurs, it is not covered under warranty.
