Thinking about buying the wife a Yukon Denali or XC90
I really like the XC90 and picking it up in Sweden sounds like a good time. However we have our third kiddo on the way so I'm worried it just isn't big enough so leaning towards a Yukon (most likely Denali, maybe SLT)
Does anybody have recent experience purchasing one of these? These are the questions I'm currently working through... - What type of discount should I expect relative to MSRP or Invoice? - Any must have options? - Any resources you used to research how to get the best deal? - What other cars did you (or for lurkers, would you) consider? - Given you can option an SLT to almost the same exact exterior look with slightly less luxurious interior how do you justify the ~$7k premium for the Denali? |

I've never looked at Volvo's before until the new XC90 came out. It looks pretty good, but I just wish it had a v8 or v6tt engine option. I know they have a hybrid model... But it's not the same.
Edit: why no consideration for the X5 with 3rd row seats? |

It probably doesn't apply to the new XC90 but my buddy has a 2012 and has had a bunch of problems with it.
On the other hand my other buddies wife has only had Denalis and other Yukons for about ten years now, and has had very little issues with them. But she only keeps them a few years since she gets a vehicle allowance from her company and the Yukon is one of the approved vehicles she can get. But if you are buying new you shoudl be able to get a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper on either the Volvo or the Denali.

I wish but the 3rd row on the X5 is nearly worthless and with the seats up there is essentially zero storage behind the seats which is a problem for us. The Swedes worked some sort of sorcery with the XC90, it doesn't feel that big yet you get inside and can have 3 rows of comfortable adults as well as a bit of storage.

The XC90 is amazing I would not think twice about getting it assuming you ca fit everyone and their stuff in the car. Light years ahead of most things out there.
Feel free to PM me if you go that route and do Sweden delivery, I spend a lot of time there could send you some hotel, bar, restaurant suggestions.

Just been to Sweden and there were loads of new XC90s there. Very good trucks, just a shame they are four cylinder only.
A friend has an old T6 (275bhp turbo six) which is brilliant. |

The Volvo and Audi are great cars! I would say get the Volvo for longevity and looks, while the GMC for space. I've worked a couple people with Yukons and they both said they wanted the Denali, but the additional cost is outrageous for some chrome bits and different wheels! My vote is Volvo, but I could see the GMC coming in handy with space and towing.

One thing to note on R-design, I think it's all cosmetic. The older XC60 we had you got a bump in performance as well, so it was worth it. I'm not sure but check and make sure the bigger wheels don't come with lower profile tires. The XC60 did and they were a pain in the ass. Great for a sports car, defeats the purpose of an SUV and we swapped them almost immediately.

But the Q7 rocks in the feature and drive department. A hot item in our dealership, 6 month wait at this point in Canada. |

The volvos are reveared with the new design, but the GM big trucks are hard to beat, especially if you're looking for room. Also, the repair-ability of the Volvo will likely be more difficult.

It's true, the GM products just dominate the space segment. Same with the Ford Excursion. Both the American products have the option for second row captain chairs which mean you can pass through the middle to the back seats. SO MUCH easier for the big family rather than passing through like in the Volvo or Q7. Quality, interior and driving feel will go to the Q7 and Volvo. The Q7 will have a better handling/driving feel IMHO. The tech on the American will be nearly as good as the Europeans but with less cost and flash. Truly a utilitarian product that will serve you well. |

Also keep in mind that the GMC will ride much different than the volvo or audi for sure. More truck like and those tend to be a little more car like if that makes sense. If you aren't used to sitting up higher with more disconnect from the road, the Yukon may not be the best choice.

But with that said, if you need the space. Get the Yukon and be done with it. |

What about new Acura MDX, how does it compare to XC90? Acura got nice reliable powertrain N/A V6 3.5 with one of the best AWD systems - SH-AWD and it still rated at 27 MPG HWY vs 25 MPG for Volvo, not really sure about benefits of complicated super/turbo charged 4-cyl.
