Driving to LA

Will be driving to LA on thursday from Dallas. i just have a few questions.

1. Garmin mounted on windshield
2. No front license plate
3. Radar Detector mounted in the middle of windscreen
4. Small "Don't Kiss My Ass" decal at trunk next to plate

will the above mess me up if i a cop pulls me over? are there any other regulations/law that i should take notice?

i would put the front plates on. a lot of southern cali people have been getting cited for tints and no front plates lately. the garmin should be fine.

drive safe. don't be a speed racer.

You're taking a chance with the front plate. The Garmin will be OK.

Don't worry about the plates, at least I wouldn't worry about them!! Seems like every other car that is not equipped with factory navi you see with a gps unit in the dash, so no worries about that either! Enjoy your trip!

yeah maybe the cop will just let him if he says he's visiting from out of town OR he can be a dick and cite him anyways..

What is the LAW regarding plates in Texas (assuming that's where your car is registered)? CHP will abide by that rule.

I *thought* the GPS units on the dash were also illegal, even if not very well enforced. That's why everyone wires them in below visible level, along with their radar unit.

all cars that i've seen with aftermarket gps they mount them on the windshield. but for the license plate there are like a bunch of cars that don'e have fronts plates, only heard like a couple being pulled over but cops didn't cite them. cops here won't pull you over just for not having a frontplate, they will only warn you/cite you if you get pulled over with another violation first.

UncleWede, you are correct about GPS units on the dash/windshield. As of November 1, 2007 in California, mounting a rubber suction cup GPS, radar, and other devices on the windshield is a motor vehicle violation

As for your front license plate, any peace officer in CA can pull you over. By having no front license plate, that is sufficient for the peace officer to at least pull you over. Will the officer give you a citation? I guess that depends on the officer.

Do you have your front license plate? Just put it on the dash between the windshield and your dash. I did that with my other car for 10 years and NEVER received a citation for that car (208,000 California miles).

I've been driving in SoCal for 15 years without a front plate and still no ticket for it. I'm sure if you're only here a couple days you shouldn't have a problem.

If you do get one you've beaten the odds and I suggest you buy a Lotto ticket on your way home.

Radar detector is the same thing. Anything mounted on the windshield is illegal in California and is considered an obstruction to your view.

oh one more thing, i got a present as i got to LA by a friggin 18 wheeler. spun a rock up and it hit right above my rain sensor. LUCKY

Welcome to California!

Just remember... your journey from the border to San Dimas is hardly a complete view of California.

California is sooo-> diverse. There is something for everyone here in California.

Where else are you going to visit while you are here?

only been to beverly that i think is special besides that, have been to arcadia, rowland, hacienda i think. my firiends been taking me out to eat the good taiwanese food around rowland. been drinking every night since i been here. and going to drink again later on.
any place recommended for a first timer?
