EPA release?

I'm getting my local dealer's HEA car. I'm trying to set up Performance Center delivery, and I asked my sales guy to find out what date they can give me (if it's ridiculously far out, I'll have it delivered to the dealer instead).

BMW NA sent him a reply indicating they can't give out any dates, as the car still has an EPA hold (meaning EPA hasn't 'blessed' the car's mileage and emissions yet). BMW NA also said no customer cars will be delivered until the hold is released.

Do anyone of the more "connected" people here know when that will happen?

Correct. EPA hold is technically no longer in place from the EPAs point of view. BMW USA is still holding. My car is on the boat with a destination of the performance center. I'm awaiting a final delivery date too so I can book my flight.

EPA hold has been released, however BMW is holding cars at port until April 10th and customer deliveries cannot take place until April 16th.

I read that a lot for he HEA F80-82-83s that sat around the port had rust problems later because of all the salty air. Just sitting there... eating away at the car...

* No, i didn't read that... I am just fucking with the people that have anxiety. Sorry. I'll just troll along now.

That would make sense. My sales guy forwarded the latest e-mail from BMW NA (dated 3/8). Now they're calling it a "release hold," and saying they can't schedule delivery until that's lifted.

Yes, they are holding all of them at the ports until all dealers' HEA cars are ready to be shipped. This is by design to ensure all dealers with have the car at the same time.

Actually, SCOTT confirmed it was because BMW did not complete their global marketing initiatives yet for the M2, which really pisses me off.

"There is still more avid promoting and marketing to be completed before the car officially is on the market.

Internally the BMW employee cars start to arrive this month. Some management vehicles are unique, I know one who has Polaris Silver on their 2002, their 1er M Coupe and now their M2."

You know what the best promoting would be? Actual cars on the road.

Why does BMW need to spend more time promoting the M2 and there is no inventory? Are they going to shut down production of all the other models for a certain period of time and pump out a boatload of M2s? It seems like there are more people ready to buy the M2 than the Leipzig plant is able to build. So BMW wants to advertise more, increase demand, make the line longer and the waiting list longer...when there are no M2s ready to be sold? Frustrate its customers more? The M2 isn't the only car on earth and people can (and will) take their money elsewhere.

This.

It doesn't do any good to get people interested only to tell them they won't get a car in 2016. They'll just go elsewhere.

Well sorta ...

Did buyers go " elsewhere " after the 1M went off the market ?

If they did, they have certainly come back quickly

Many people that didn't get a 1M went ahead and got an E90 or E92 M3.

Today, The M235 is a compelling purchase and really is perfect for the person that's afraid of the loss of 22 lbs of sound deadening. Plus it will be in stock and available for discount. It's a much better car for the money than the 135 and there will be an M240 soon to right ?

Prospective lessors will be run off to the M3 and M4 by the Unattractive lease rates. You certainly aren't gonna find a better deal at the Porsche store.

The people that want better mirrors, leather, Seats, bespoke this or that , or more doors will f#ck off and buy or lease an M3 or an M4.

the simple fact is, is that the M2 is more popular than the 1M. It's more anticipated, and there is 5 years of pent up demand of people that wanted a 1M, that sold their 1M, that are trading in their 1M, that wanted a blue 1M, that wanted a 1M with DCT, and a ton of people with more disposable income now than 5 years ago.

The majority of people that want an M2 that don't get one will still likely get another BMW.
