So I am now unemployed......

As many of you know, I've been really unhappy at my job for the last couple of months. It really has gotten worse when the owners wife began working with me back in November and this past Monday she told me that they would be letting me go. The main reason is that she disagrees how the way I do things and the fact that I didn't heed her advises. As I've explained to her in the last year they never hired another accounting person to assist me and I was doing two positions for the same pay AND her advises were adding more work which was pointless and not efficient. I was told because of the budget they didn't hire anyone else, yet its ok for the owner to hire model looking females to bang on VIP/Group trips. I really felt like telling her this My boss didn't have my back, however surprisingly, the owner gave me a decent severance package and wished me the best.

Yes, I don't have a job, however, I am relieved to be out of there and to turn the page. I have some leads and will file for unemployment. This company is just very unorganized and TBH I just didn't care the last couple of months and deep down I was hoping they would have gotten rid of me anyway. I always saw this place as a job, not a career and the motivation in me was certainly lacking. With the schedule being 8:30-6:30 M-F it was hard to go on interviews but now I'll have more time and I'm confident something will come up in the near future.

Overall, things happen for a reason so I have no regrets.

It's hard running a company (understatement) and they probably had their reasons for not doing things the way you wanted even if it seemed inefficient from your end.

And what the hell do you expect the owners to do, not compensate themselves for their work and for assuming the entire risk of the company? That's crazy, and come on, dude, you would bang hot women on trips too if you were the boss....unless you're gay, in which case you'd bang hot men. That's how these things work.

I'm debating taking my son with me back to NY for a few days next week as he's on spring break but I heard it's going to storm and I don't plan on putting snows on my F30 so we'll see. Wifey will be working so it would be fun to visit the ol' neighborhood again, even though we were back in November. We'll see.

Really sorry to hear this. My one time working for a family business ended very badly for me, but I ended up in a much better position. Plus the owner's son came in and took over and it was painful. He drove an Acura TL 6 speed manual tranny that he thought was the greatest car ever made. I smoked him good in my Infiniti G37 and that was probably the beginning of the end for me.

Looking for a job is one of the toughest things to go through. Be hyper organized, network like crazy and put it away every night. You'll be better off in the long run.

Good luck!

I know all about being assigned pointless, useless time wasters on top of an already cumbersome workload - so I feel for you there. I'm sure you'll come out on top. Maybe I'll see your ugly ass on 287.

I'm gay all the time, happy

But yeah I hear you man, I think they really wanted to cut costs. I've heard from coworkers all week that she has been doing my job and is now there full time. Regardless I'm glad to be out of there.

I've applied to maybe 10 jobs since Monday and gotten a few calls. Since then I've taking long naps and being Mr. Mom, taking my son to school and picking him up. BTW, interview already for Monday.

EDIT: I've picked him up from school only a few times so all the milfs lined up this week have asked my son who I was lol. One of them has touched me twice this week. Not sure if it's a trap or.....

Hey OP my mantra is that I'm always looking for a better job. In the end until you find the company that appreciates you and compensates you well and let's you do the job, you should always be looking at opportunities!

Good luck

hahah the good life. I got laid off in 2009 and flat out chilled for 3 months. Wake up, hit the gym, come back, apply for jobs, nap, dinner, and every so often hit the bars with friends. Was pretty happy but realistically couldn't do that for much longer. Then got a new gig and been miserable since. hah

I worked for a family business once.. never agin. Being let go is never easy, but eventually it happens to most people. Sounds like you're doing the right thing, keeping positive and applying. I was down for only two weeks before I was working again.

Yeah, but there is a reason that this type of behavior is illegal in a public company. Violates fiduciary responsibility. Granted, this is. Not a public company. But a good, company prioritized corporate health of owner "pleasure". Now, if it advances the corporate agenda or they have lots of extra cash, cool. Neither seams to be the case (although admittedly we have one side of a story.). This goes in the category of "just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD". And no, if I owned a company I wouldn't. Another part of owning a company is appreciating that the financial well-being of your employees and families depends on the decisions you make. Guessing this guy/woman don't think that way.

I lead a smallish team and I always remember what the guy who gave me my first management job told me. He is a really good leader - army ranger/special ops background. "Now that you are in management, the decisions you make, the effort you put in, the level of commitment you have - those things all effect way more than you and your family. Your decisions now effect dozens of families. Don't fuck that up." I have seen great leaders and terrible and you can really tell the difference between ones who get this and ones who don't.

Hey dude. I was in this exact situation this past November (minus a severance package due to the terms of my separation being somewhat hostile) and I couldn't have counted my blessings enough to be out of such a toxic environment.

I am a firm believer that things happen exactly as they are supposed to, and a "setback" is always a setup for a comeback, according to the brotha Les Brown.

I immediately enrolled back in school for my BS degree and started to take things a day at a time; since you have things I didn't (working spouse, severance package, etc.), take some time to enjoy a bit of freedom and take care of some things.

Also, use Glassdoor when searching for new roles. It's a great tool to get insight into companies from employees of all levels. It's proven vital during my searches. Salaries are also included.

Best of luck to you, and keep your head up!

You could take some time to learn new skills also. TDAmeritrade offers a free trading platform, where you can trade either real currency or virtual dollars for practice.
