Studio Monitors or normal PC speakers
My current speakers now is the old Bose Companion Multimedia speakers2.1, i use that basically from watching online, PS4, editing homemade videos and blu ray.
all happens on my computer desk. the Bose doesn't feel sufficient enough but i don't want 5.1 as the space i have really don't need that type of setup. i know studio monitors are near field so therefore i thought that since i am on my computer desk doing all the above, it might work. i also know that studio monitors are more accurate (flat) without the bells and whistles while listening, correct me if i'm wrong. i thought of adding an additional subwoofer to make it more like a 2.1 i am not even close to an audiophile but i do like listening and watching movies. am looking at the Yamaha HS7/HS8 with possibly adding the HS8S subwoofer to complete it. if the above is a 'GO' will i need an audio interface/DAC to complete it. And also the Audioengine A5+ but nut sure if they do have a separate subwoofer as an add-on Or what speakers (2.1) do you suggest if the studio monitors are not suitable. online streaming i plug the 3.5mm straight on the imac, and for the PS4 or blu ray, i plug it straight on the monitor also just using the 3.5mm

If you go with Audioengine (I have A5s and A2s) be sure to get the desk stands if you're planning on having them on a desk.

If you want great computer speakers then I'd highly recommend the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 set up. If you want something more then head over to avsforum. You can build a nice 2.1 set up for your computer that will sound great and still be cost effective.

I have a pair of white Audio Engine 5 that I have been using for a year.
I love it. The looks and the sound is very nice. Probably the best pair of speakers I have had. You can also get a Subwoofer for almost $400. |

so far as the the replies here, you guys agree and do also recommend to use studio monitors as an everyday setup for entertainment wise.
as for the connection, an XLR to 3.5mm is sufficient or will i need any type of audio interface

If you haven't seen the AE 5+ in person, the studio monitors are big, which is probably why a member suggested stands. The AE 5+ retail for $400. I'd rather build a nice 2.1 set up for the money. You'll need cables, floor stands, subwoofer from partsexpress, a/v receiver, and find some nice book shelf speakers all for $600 or less.

The dedicated AE stands isolate the speaker as well as lift the front up to avoid the immediate reflection issues you're going to get with it sat directly on a desk.

No, because the title of the thread I read before I read the word "Bose" in his actual post indicated to me that the OP knows they're shit and is looking for something, not just superior, but FAR superior to what he currently has.

^^^stop with the BOSE lol
i have learnt a lesson already, now am for sure to step up the game. But it's overwhelming in the audio world, for me atleast. so many choices. i move back to South Africa now and the place i stay is not as convenient, don't have any audio stores close to my place so i can only search online. check this link and what you guys think, note that the price is in South African Rands which is about $1400 http://www.ultrasound.co.za/klipsch-system-1 i know i said i don't need a 5.1 but would like to get a general idea of how this complete system is for its price and what about the Paradigm shift A2, powered so i can just plug and play

First the funny part - You know what Audiophiles say Bose stands for? Better Off Something Else. Sorry, couldn't help it! Now the serious stuff: Don't know if the advice is too late, but you'll probably want this info in general. This topic is covered in nauseating detail, with lots of suggests of what NOT to buy over on the Head-Fi Forums. Anyone who is really interested in upping their game and achiving audio nirvana really should check them out. It started as a "headphones" group, but now sports 10's of thousands of members, ranging from the actual system designers to "everyday Joe's", and covers pretty much anything you need to know about digital music, and audio in general. It's a really nice place to get info on audio, and they're generally gentle on the newbies! Check it out: http://www.head-fi.org/f/ WARNING! Your pocket may be a bit lighter after hanging there for a while! All the Best, PuterPro |
