Help - Which aftermarket HID kit? ...

So the plan is ...
buy empty pre-LCI f30 headlight units from ebay with the original projectors and angel eyes
And install an aftermarket HID kit with it
Code for xenon ... and pray that it works fine

But browsing through HID kits... there are so many different types

anyone have a strong recommendation for what brand/model?
do i get a D1S bulb type HID kit?
any help appreciated

Keep us updated with your build.

So.... you don't need to use a canbus system with the D1S?

You won't have the halos, or a functioning high beam if you go this route.

Nope, it is a harness inside the housing that connects everything, with one big plug that connects to the car. The only way you can get projectors and the halos wired into the halogen set up is with a projector retrofit for the low beam and get them to put the rings in them. The OEM lights are bi-xenon, so there is only one projector that the light comes out of.

Or buy these if he still has them.

If you want to retrofit OEM headlights, then yes. If you just do a projector retrofit inside of your current halogens, then no.

You're looking at about 3-4k in parts, labor, and coding to get this to work. Your other option is to get a pair of eagle eyes aftermarket housings, and put some LED's in them, or a good HID kit, and code out all errors. This route will cost you about $500.

Not unless you go about it yourself, I'm gathering parts as we speak, all I have left to get are the driver modules, and I'm about $1,300 in parts alone for OEM bi-xenons. Just have to be patient when it comes to gathering parts, and try to look for oversea sellers on ebay who will ship to the US. (Or know someone stationed in Germany/Europe who can send the parts through the USPS)

Someone is willing to sell me complete f30 xenon headlights for under $1300
I hope the guy comes through and does not flake

If that does not happen, then I will piece together the parts like Adamr has been doing

Or just settle for the eagle eyes and add hid kit

I wouldn't settle on the eagle eyes when Umnitza has the LED lights that look factory, the eagle eyes look too much like a VW IMO.

The retrofit will require rewiring and coding if you're looking at going that route, but that's a good deal for complete lights, the driver modules are $350 a piece brand new, and they are the last things I need to get, so that will put me around $2000 to be completed.

$2000 and that's with you piecing the parts together?

i'm aware of the need to re-code ... but re-wiring, too?

Yeah, you have to add 3 ground wires and move a couple of pins around. The only reason why I ended up having to piece together is because the 2 e-code sets I was looking at got sold before I could get them. But if you can find the driver modules used for a good price (not brand new price) then the total price will be less than that.

I was going to get the Umnitza LED headlights, but after I got to thinking about the "what if's" of aftermarket lighting, I just decided on doing the OEM route, so of something were to happen, at least I can replace what ever brakes.
