Millions in damages at local BMW dealership after hail storm

Quote:
Luxury took a beating in North San Antonio on Tuesday night. The hail storm pummeled an entire fleet of BMW’s at a local dealership.

If you’re in the market for a BMW, you might be in luck. Mother Nature put the ultimate driving machine to the test during a hail storm.

The day was anything but luxurious at BMW of San Antonio. The dealership is recovering from a hail storm that nearly pounded its fine fleet to finality.

Nick Vanderpool, the general manager at BMW of San Antonio, didn't want to go on camera, but says that severe weather battered his entire fleet of cars. He's calling it a total loss. The damage to the vehicles: millions of dollars.

Windows are shattered all over his car lot: 300 Beamers to be exact.

He and employees started covering the busted windshields with plastic. But there is so much damage that, by sunrise, the plastic wrap was gone.

The storm ravaged vehicles are loner cars, brand new BMWs, cars being serviced, and customers who were purchasing a piece of luxury until the storm happened. If there is any good news, customers will have a shot a buying a BMW for a reduced rate in a forthcoming hail sale.

Vanderpool says he has hundreds of brand new Beams to replace the damaged ones. They should be on the lot some time next week.
Im sure the lot's insureance will cover it but still sucks to see

Don't dealers like this kind of stuff?

They basically moved 300 cars in a night, thanks to insurance.

Why didn't they at least move some of the cars into buildings (like the service building and showroom)?

Who is their insurance company and where can i buy one of these with a beat up body?

I'll gladly make a track car out of one of these with busted glass and beat paint.

I have a friend who works there, I should probably check in and see if his 335 caught any damage.

Never understood why dealers have their inventory on outside lots.

Wow that's terrible. I live about 180 miles from there and we got it pretty strong here and I was very happy my BMW was in my garage.

I remember about 10 years ago Westchester BMW was flooded - lost most of the cars. Funny, the 7 series all had their windows rolled down automatically by safety feature.

I sold cars during college. Not a feasible option in most cases, certainly not for high volume cars.

Garage List
Wow, that's rough... My heart literally sunk, especially as I was just watching a video on the G11's technology (and wondering when it'll bleed down to more economical cars).

Captain Hindsight moment: I saw a parking garage where there are carports with solar panels on top doubling as a roof, so that might be a double whammy to protect the cars and generate electricity when it's not hailing, and a solar panel may be cheaper than the windows, glass, auto body and other electronics in a car, so they should've done that.

Also to be "that guy" for a second... Bimmers* Loaner* They need to check the spelling.
