UK MPG?

So you dudes from the UK are always quoting some insane MPG numbers and while that in of its self boggles me i have another question.
You buy and measure your fuel in Liters but you calculate Miles Per Gallon?

That be 2 questions...

Can't answer that, but Europeans have sensible engines available to them that we poor slobs in the US never see. Why can't I buy a Mercedes or BMW with a 1.8 liter engine?

The imperial gallon (UK) is about 20% larger than the US gallon, so the MPG number will be higher in the UK.

To answer your second question, yes, we buy in liters but measure in mpg.

Yeah but when you compare the price per gallon, petrol is stupidly cheap in US.

I heard imperial inches are 20% bigger than US ones too. That 9 inches (US) not so impressive now!

Imperial gallon is 4.54 litres. US gallon is 4.00 litres.

Took me a while to figure that out the first time I drove there. Couldn't understand why everyone was riding my ass on the back roads when I was doing the speed limit, which was posted at 50. I, of course, was doing 50 KPH. D'oh!!

definitely a plus for us asians. i will from now on refer to imperial inches.
