Do the turbos for our cars drain its oil from gravity?

Do the turbos for our cars drain its oil from gravity such that if there is any restriction in the turbos' drain path back to the pan, oil build up is going to take the path of least resistance? I don't want to replace/rebuild the turbos only for it to start leaking oil and causing smoking issues down the road again. I want to make sure all possible culprits of turbo oil leak are addressed.

The gravity is irrelevant here. If the oil return lines are clogged, then yes, oil will find its was past the seals and cause smoking. Always a good idea to check the oil returns.
