I figured out another spare tire option for 235 and 228 THP
I couldn't stomach $350+ for a spare wheel/tire, so..
I bought a 5 series spare wheel brand new off ebay for $67, 17x4 ET18, 36116758778. There are lots of used ones with tires mounted available, but I didn't want a 5+ year old tire. A 135/80/17 tire is $75 from Tirerack. 125/80/17 is $119 if you want the exact stock diameter and 1 cm more trunk space (Still only $200 total). You will need a jack and wrench of course. Any scissor will do if you have the pad adapter, or find a used BMW jack. The OEM stuff fits in the well next to battery: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showt...5#post19831315 As for fitment, a spacer is necessary front and rear. I am already running 10mm spacers all around and there is about 7-9mm clearance from the calipers . I can also use the existing longer bolts. A relatively cheap 3 mm or 5 mm spacer should be adequate, but please test before actually needing the spare. Even with 10mm, the outside face of a 135 tire is within the outside face of the stock tires, so no concern with rubbing. If you can find another wheel with an offset between 8 and 15, that could work too. The expensive OEM aluminum spare wheel is 8, which is where I ended up with the 18 wheel minus 10mm spacer. Hard to tell, but I can almost fit my pinky between the caliper and inside of wheel. |

Lots of effort, but money saved. Now you need a tire bag and some straps to secure it in the trunk. Bimmerzone has an inexpensive (11.95) one more fitting for your economy minded system than the $100 one at BavAuto.Though the BavAuto model has straps with it.
