E93 with Soft Top

In a german forum a couple of different members reported, that they saw the E93 driving around in the Munich area with a Soft Top like the E46 convertible used to have it instead of the Hard Top. They also said it was definitely not the new 1 Series convertible which has a Soft Top.
It looks like BMW is thinking about the Hard Top as an option and the Soft Top as the standard version of the E93.
I hope they actually do it, because the E46 convertible was a real beauty, I also like the new one but itīs just not as sexy as the old one.

Was that car possibly the mule for the 1-series convertible's soft top?

no one is going to go for the soft top esp since there is a hard top version... if you buy your car with the soft top version, your resale value will prob be significantly lower.

+2 Or they confused it for a 6er soft top.

Maybe someone customized an e93 with a cloth top. Cloth over the hard top sections. Like a bad version of an old caddy.

I saw one of those the other day. The car was a gold/beige paint, with a green soft-top, chrome wheels, heavy tint, and gold-plated everything else; door handles, grille, Cadillac emblems on the wheels...

Someone in the german forum also supposed it was the 1series convertible but the guy who saw it is sure it wasnīt. Except for that, the 1 series convertible is almost on the market and shown to the press months ago so there is no need for a mule anymore.

Seriously doubt that, Germany is not the States
You probably know, that Munich is the headquarter of BMW, so it is not unusual to see their test vehicles driving around and there are two guys that say they saw an E93 with a Soft Top.
Another guy claims that they even told him at the dealership, that there might be Soft Top E93 coming out.
If there are really test vehicles driving around, we will get some pics sooner or later.

There are lots of 1 series (not coupes yet) here and as I pass them it takes a
second to realize what they are (the headlight give it away). Does that make
sense?

Anyway, I'm sure everyone makes mistakes. We see what we want to see. I
think my girl looks like Angelina Jolie, but she actually looks more like
Al Jolson.

If this car actually DOES exist, I bet it was either M3 or euro-spec only... I doubt we will see regular e93 soft top here in the states.

Not everyone likes hard-top convertibles. I remember a Bentley executive explaining that most of their customers prefer the classic look of a soft-top, and in particular the way the rain pitter-patters on the canvas vs. the sound on metal. In addition, the colour contrast is unique to having a canvas top.
