Replaced 3.5mm vacuum hoses
So i was started to have problems holding boost and my wastegate rattle was getting really bad. I figured it had something to do with damaged vacuum hoses which was correct. I started by pulling the hoses from each vacuum canister after the car had been running for about 30 min. One canister held vacuum the other did not. I traced the vacuum lines back to the connection near the oil filter housing and saw that one line had cracked right through and the other had a small crack.
Using the power of the internet.... I was able to find German Supply which is a small little shop dealing with VW restoration on the Lakeshore in Etobicoke. They sell German made braided vacuum hose which is 3.5mm (stock OEM BMW size) which is apparently hard to find. https://www.germansupply.com/home/cu...cat=385&page=1 Its sells for $3 a foot and is the exact same product ECS sells for $22.71 USD a meter. I bought 6 feet which was more than enough to replace all the upper vacuum lines which were my problem lines. After swapping the hoses out my car idles much smoother and I'd say wastegate rattle has been reduced by about 50%. If you still have your original vacuum hoses, its worth the $20 and 20 minutes to replace them. Some pics and other related info in this post http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=546560 |

Not exactly sure what you mean by the hot and the cold vacuum hoses? I replaced the vacuum hoses from the large vacuum source near the oil filter housing to the solinoids, the line running to the CAN-flap, and the hoses connecting the solinoids together. I pulled off the wastegate vacuum hoses and inspected them, both were fine. They have a metallic weave in the braiding which I assume is to keep them from melting being so close to the exhaust. Since I didn't have this type of hose I left them alone not to cause any further problems.

So did my downpipes and now the car sounds like a bag of marbles. I am really hoping this will fix it as the waste-gate tightening did nothing previously.

Both my canisters are holding vacuum and the lines at the oil filter are replaced. Still getting a rattle and studying what next. May be i should re-tighten the rear rod and see. So did the firmware update to JB4 g5 iso and the rattle is now gone. I can send the marbles back to the toy store.
