DIY Backyard Paint Job

I was bored searching Craigslist about a month ago looking for a cheap pos car/truck I could use as a new DD to keep the mileage down on my X5M, I stumbled across a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee for $500 that needed some work. The truck needed very minor work and with over 140k miles runs pretty good, I immediately began modding it as I do every car/truck I own.

The original color of the truck was maroon/siena red or whatever the hell it's called, I have an X5M Monte Carlo Blue and really love the color so I decided to spray paint the Jeep the same color I spray painted the truck in my condo complex parking lot in 2 days, my neighbors think I'm out of my fuckin mind! I plasti dipped the entire truck black first to go with the murdered out look but got bored of that color quickly

Has anyone else done or attempted this? Feel free to post pics of your DIY paint jobs...Here are some pics of my progress

Paint job looks fantastic.

Love it!

I just plastidipped my beater Passat as I fixed some rust on it. Same idea, low budget improvement on overall looks and longevity. Total cost with fixing the rust...$250

I thing wrong forum but worth it. I've bought my share of $500 cars growing up and none of them looked as nice as that.

Ha! This reminds of High School. I did that before on my buddy's HONDA CRX back in the day when I convinced my buddy to repaint his used CRX he just bought (cuz the fender was replaced and was red...different from the original blue color of the rest of the car). Plus I was bored and really wanted to see how it could be done...lol. Took us 2days and countless trip to Pepboys for paint... I remember going to atleast 4-5 different stores in Socal since we've basically took each stores stock on this one very particular dark midnight blue paint. I Never could get that clear coat to look right or even... Always looked a bit blotchy and somewhat dull in the day time! But it looked fucking awesome at night... especially since we also tinted the tail lights and cut the spings to dropped the car. Nevertheless, a month later.... My buddy flipped the car for $1000 more than what he originally bought the car for... I wish i had pictures, but this was over 20yrs ago... We barely had pagers back then. LOL.

Why not take it to Maaco or something? For like $200 its a decent paint job with less effort lol. On a side note I love these Grand Cherokees when they're modded like that.

Is it me or does the blue look pretty bad? lol I don't work for the EPA, but it's not legal to paint a car outside like that...but that sounds like a great deal for $500?

OP, is this you??

I would respectfully disagree with that, and that's my issue with people that spray paint outside in the open, you all think that the paint will not fly away too far.. I guarantee you someone's windshield is nicely cloudy and glittery...
