is this normal?! tint job

So I paid $420 and this is the outcome... the guy said he can't get those bubbles out because it's not a flat surface... and in some spots of the window there are imperfections like stuff dust spots and his reason is he's not perfect. I feel like I just got robbed...

Mine's the same way. It's worth noting a lot of the roughness of the edges will go away when it is completely dried.

Okay, cool. I've seen pictures people posted on the forums of their cars getting tinted and it looked so clean. Thanks

That area will improve to some extent. Leave it in the sun.

Looks the same as mine when I got it, relax it'll look better once it fully dries.

Mine looks the same around all those little dots. There's just not much you can do about them. If he got dust and hair under it somewhere else though....well he just sucks.

The guy that did mine only charged 250 and it's flawless.

My 228i came out the same after the tinting. I went to a highly recommended shop. Installer warned me before starting job, there was no way to get the tint on the black dimples to stay completely flat. I don't even notice it anymore.

The phenomenon of tint that fails to conform to curves is called ghosting. I discovered that it's all about the material used. The very high-end, ceramic films do not ghost but what the sellers never tell you is that comparatively few of them are licensed to install these top of the line products.

Mine looked the same way when I got it done. I haven't even noticed if it's gone away or not because it never bothered me in the first place.

OT: Wow! I know you guys are US (mostly) but here in Czech republic rear windows would cost me around $100 - from a guy with certificate, the $400+ got me on knees

Normal at first. But.. the dude should know that you can bring it in in a few weeks and have things smoothed out a bit once things start to dry (or you can do it yourself).

The price seems a bit extreme... here in Greece getting licensed 3M tints costs around 170Euros.

As far as the bubbling goes, i dont think its normal. I have had 6 cars tinted over the past 3 year (the entire familys basically), and none of them have that much bubbling on those areas. There is a small difference but its not noticeable at all. (ill take some pics over the weekend to show you).

I would take it back in, and insist they squeeze out any air and use a heat gun to help evaporate any locked up air.

just my 2c.

He didn't say what kind of tint though. i paid $500 for top of the line Suntek CXP on all windows including windshield. That seemed to be the going rate in my area.

I too have ghosting like that, but mine isn't that bad. I don't think mine even started out that bad.

I got a high quality ceramic for $320 no bubbles. I believe the guy said it's lifetime transferable. Ie if I get a new car I can bring it back in and have it done for free or for the price difference.

Man, that'd be nice. Mine is lifetime too, but it stays with the car. When I sell it the new owner gets the warranty.

Yeah it's kinda a weird concept right? I'll have to read through the manual again.

Idk why it would be called lifetime "transferable" instead of lifetime warranty if you couldn't transfer it to a new car. Also if it is what I hope/think it's is, then that's a bold move for the shop.

At first I clocked that photograph inside-out and wondered, "how does he get all that stuff in his 235?"
