Updated: 2017 340i M Sport Manual arriving soon! PCD Scheduled for 9/1!

Hey fellow BMWers, I am new to this forum but not new to BMWs. I've owned an e90 M3, e92 M3, 335d M Sport and e36 and e46 M3 race cars (NASA GTS2 & 3 and TT).

My '17 340i is scheduled to arrive at the port in Charleston this Friday! Once it clears EPA and so on, it'll make it's way to the Performance Center where I will take delivery.

One potentially cool side note; I participated in UTCC a couple of years ago with Donnie, an instructor at the Performance Center, so he's listed me as "pro driver" for my delivery. Have no idea what that will mean once I am there, haha.

Anyway, here is my build:
  • Glacier Silver
  • Black Dakota leather
  • Black ash wood trim with metal inlay
  • Manual transmission
  • Black kidney grills
  • ZCW Cold Weather
  • ZDA Driver's Assist
  • ZLP Lighting
  • ZMP/337 M Sport w/ 19" Style 442 M orbit gray wheels & M Adaptive Suspension
  • ZTP Technology
  • ZTR Track Handling

I'll update this thread when I schedule my delivery and document the experience.

Enjoy the drive!

Trevor

Awesome specs! Good call on the 442's and ZTR. There is only a few of us!! You'll be the first person I know to take delivery of a MY17.

Good luck!

Thanks MTX! It is my understanding the order was submitted first day for '17s. There is an EPA hold on my car since it's a new '17. Presumably one of the first of the '17s. They are saying they will "inspect" the car and then place the window sticker releasing it for ground transport. I've been told that can take 3 to 30 days, ugh.

My ship is sitting in Baltimore which is actually closer to me than Charleston.... It's tough to be patient!

Congrats!! You're lucky. I ordered my '16 340 in May and it still hasn't reached the port in Charleston! I'm doing PCD as well.

Awesome, congrats! You'll be one of the first '17 cars on the forums/in the country.

Did you skip on CarPlay? I'm curious how it works in a BMW.

Pickor06, I did skip both CarPlay and wireless charging. CarPlay seems a little elemental at this point but I am sorta regretting wireless charging delete as I understand iPhone 7 will have that capability. Oh well, next go 'round.

ssmtsx, that seems crazy... Sorry brother, hope it arrives soon. Maybe it's on the same boat and we can take deliveries at the same time!

My car arrived at the port in Charleston today! Hope to get official status from BMW tomorrow. Now I hope to EPA gets their inspection done so I can schedule my PCD.

PS mtx450, how do you add "garage list" to your profile? And sorry for my ignorance, but in order to post from my phone, how he heck do you sign in to the app? Thanks from a newbie.

Are you sure it's a 2017? The Start of Production for MY 2017 3 series was 7/16. It seems like it would be a stretch for the car to be arriving that quickly.

Yes it's a MY17, have full VIN and confirmation of order/build/production. I wouldn't post it here if it weren't the case, haha. It left port in Germany on the 7th so production began before the 16th. How do you attach photos? Glad to post tracking which shows MY and model. Supposedly it will leave the poor today and be transported to the Performance Center but that seems optimistic.

From my sales person on the 9th:
"Happy HOT Saturday to you!
I hope that you are doing well and I just wanted to pass this along to you.
As you can see, your car is “IN TRANSIT”! So that means it’s swimming with the fishes!
S.C. has NOT given you a date yet because if you look in the middle left area you will see Engineering Data Release Vehicle.
This means when your car lands at the Port being a brand new 2017 it will sit there until the EPA puts their stamp of approval
on it (the window sticker). I will call S.C. on Monday to see how soon they could get you a date so be ready!!!
It could take a few days from arriving or it could take a few weeks, it all depends on the EPA. On the sheet you also have your
full Vin#. Have a great weekend, keep COOL and I will be in touch!"

I believe you. I just wasn't sure if you were as well informed as you are. My SA build probably won't be here until November.

I went with

Mineral gray
Oyster white
Heated seats
Manual transmission

I want my 340i!

Oh and I cut a deal for 1,000 under invoice before incentives....

My "vehicle is in transit to the Performance Center!" It should arrive late today. So my timeline;

06/20 Order confirmed
06/29 Munich production began
07/07 Departed port in Germany
07/22 Arrived at the port of Charleston
07/26 Should arrive at the Performance Center

Not bad! Hope to hear from the Center soon to schedule delivery.

insanecoder, I am for sure. Just received this from my sales person. Damn EPA....

Dear XXXX,

It has been a pretty hot summer down here so far! 

Unfortunately, we are not able to schedule Mr. Parmer’s 340i yet, as the EPA and CARB holds have not been released. Please let him know we will contact you to schedule this vehicle as soon as we hear any news.

Kind regards,

I think you're dealing with karmic justice of some sort, since I'm still waiting for my '16 340i, ordered around May 25.

Pretty sure it's on the Valiant Ace somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic as of today. Showing a Brunswick, GA, arrival on August 4. What that means for PDC, I can't say, as nobody has let me know yet. And this is my second attempt at an order. The first 340i was a Munich build, ordered third week of March, that made it to the dealer just inside 2 months... where it was damaged. Placed an order for second 340i, and ended up with a SA build, as well as a ship ride via Germany. Maybe I'll finally see the car in mid-August, and see an end to a 5 month wait!

Hey, at least I know my now "last year's model" car is cleared with the EPA... plus I still get the 4/50 coverage. Hope you get cleared soon!

That's a drag. It looks as if my 2016 340i msport 6mt is finally catching up to your 2017. My ship (Valiant Ace) is now in Brunswick as of early this morning. Still waiting on any information re. PDC.

This whole tracking business seems a little like a work in progress with BMW. Even though the ship carrying my car reached Brunswick today (8-4), as of yesterday, the BMW genius I spoke to informed that the ship is due in Charleston on 8-6. I told him the itinerary I had for the ship doesn't show a Charleston stop. It had already zipped on by Charleston on its way south. He said all he knew is what his screen showed.

Maybe the 8-6 Charleston stop is the next stop, not the port, after they load the car to rail/truck in Brunswick, on its way to Greer (PDC)? Beats me.

In short, the logistics of moving cars around the globe are amazing. I wonder why BMW can't figure out how to keep folks better informed within the system. Not a big deal, but I'd think they'd have figured out this one by now.

Happy Friday. Yea I've been very frustrated with the process. My CA has been able to pull up online tracking (as has BMW NA when ever I call them) but I was never able to using my VIN or Production number. Which was to be part of the fun of building your own. Oh well, now I simply want my car. I have my tags, all the accessories, and a pending car payment; without the car. As of yesterday my car has been transported to the PC but is in a "secure holding area" waiting for the CARB/EPA hold to be released.

In the grand scheme of things as long I take delivery this month it still hasn't taken an excessive amount of time, it's just a bummer about the tracking and the fact that the car is sitting there and I can't pick it up.....

I'll post my PCD confirmation and maybe I'll see you there.

Trevor
