http://www.bmwblog.com/2016/01/14/bm...420-430i-440i/ The new four-cylinder petrol engines available for the BMW 4 Series from March 2016 also play their part in enhancing both sports performance and efficiency. With output raised by 5 kW/7 hp to 185 kW/252 hp and peak torque of 350 Newton metres (258 lb-ft), the most powerful latest-generation four-cylinder unit provides 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) times of 5.9 seconds (automatic: 5.8 seconds) for the new BMW 430i Coupe, 6.4 seconds (6.3 seconds) for the new BMW 430i Convertible and 5.9 seconds (5.9 seconds) for the new BMW 430i Gran Coupe. The BMW 430i Coupe and BMW 430i Gran Coupe record fuel onsumption and CO2 emissions of 6.5 – 6.1 litres per 100 kilometres / 43.5 – 46.3 mpg imp (automatic: 5.8 – 5.5 litres / 48.7 – 51.4 mpg imp) and 151 – 143 grams per kilometre (136 – 129 g/km). The BMW 430i Convertible posts figures of 7.0 – 6.6 litres per 100 kilometres / 40.4 – 42.8 mpg imp (6.3 – 5.9 litres / 44.8 – 47.9 mpg imp) and 162 – 154 grams per kilometre (146 – 138 g/km; figures according to EU test cycle, may vary depending on the tyre format specified). BMW xDrive can also be specified for these model variants. Models with the intelligent all-wheel-drive system also come with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission as standard. |

The B58 engine is the 6 cylinder in the 440 (and 340). The 430 uses a 4 cylinder version of the new modular family. The technical documents are pinned in the general section.

The B48 in the 430 puts out about 8HP more compared to the the N20/N26 in the 428, according to BMW.
I'm not sure if in the states, any real world comparisons have been made by the press yet. I'd assume the B48 is as efficient if not slightly more efficient than the N20/N26, but real world performance gains aren't going to be noticeable to the daily driver. |
