I really wish they would do away with all the crazy shit and just have the parade of nations as the opening ceremony. I don't need Brazil lecturing me on global warming.....

I'm in the camp that thinks the Olympics should be held in the same place every four years. One place for summer and one for winter. Greece would work fine for summer. It's where the Olympics started, they have the structures and infrastructure there already, and it would help their shitty economy. Winter could be in some place where there is decent skiing, whether that be US, Canada, or Europe. Screw the crooks in the IOC. Moving it around gives them way too much power and opportunities for corruption.
And I thought the whole global warming thing was a buzzkill as well. Not that there was much buzz to kill in the first place.

Yep, that's the problem. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. When I was following their demands of Boston to hold the Olympics there in 2024, I couldn't believe the shit they wanted. Their own right-of-way on the roads leading into and between the venues? Really? Some of the events were going to be many miles apart, so they'd need a special right-of-way on the local highways. Um, no...get bent. I was so glad to see Boston tell them to pound sand.

NBC is certainly packing in the commercials. Got to pay for the coverage somehow, I guess.

It's on tape delay so they could create commentary and commercial breaks that didn't detract from ceremony. So there must be a lot of dull shit going on.

I can't stand Matt Lauer and the other annoying one.

I also saw a guy from India wearing a 7-11 uniform. Shameful.

Beijing killed it... they really took it to another level... and China showed its possibilities with that ceremony.
Also, NBC should have their rights for broadcasting this even taken away forever... Brazil has nearly the same time as the US and they still manage to screw us. |

Parade of nations with interesting factoids, lighting the Olympic cauldron, and analysis of the new Olympic Stadium (not this time) are the only things I care about. The rest is usually crap. I don't even remember what China did for Beijing.
I watch for the sports. Good for Brazil in saving some money and not wasting it on some overproduced junk. Lauer and company were pretty boring.
