Spark Plugs

What kind of spark plugs do you guys use on your car?

Is the NGK IRIDIUM IX good spark plugs to get? Or should I stick with the bosh OEM plugs? What do you guys gap them at? I'm pushing 14PSI if that helps

If you're running boost above 10psi it is recommended to ditch spark plugs and
replace it with good quality glow plugs...

Go away Bryan!!!!

BTW

I'm running 13 psi and I'm running oem plugs with no issues. Most people that are running higher boost are sticking with oem plugs, they work fine. You will just have to change them more often, I think it is like every 15k miles when running a tune. Don't get them from bmw, they are over $20 a piece I think, I got mine from amazon.

I run these, OEM part number and running MHD stage 2. Great price and work perfectly.

Edit: Accidentally posted the spark plugs from my Z3M. Sorry

These are the ones you want:

The other Boschs are for the E36, I believe, but whatever. They're all available for around $45 or so on Amazon, though I'm sure you can pay more for them elsewhere. The NGKs go for ~50% more. I'm running 20-21 PSI boost on an E60 tune, and I'm currently on the OEM plugs the dealer installed ~8K miles ago.

Here is what happened to my OEM plugs at 20psi... Since then, I switched to NGK 5992. You need to run colder plugs with higher boost to avoid running hot, knocking, timing drops and possibly melting your plugs like I did...

I have used OEM (Bosch), Bosch (aftermarket) and NGK. NGK were good but died quicker, maybe 15k. Bosch I have been able to get 18-20k. My car is FBO running 18-20 psi on stock turbos. Although lately the price has been coming down so much on the Bosch that I am beginning to wonder if any of them are counterfeit. Two years ago I could not find a set of 6 below $70, now they are under $50. But so far, no problems with any I have purchased.

Life is good! Now that we're done with plugs, let's all go back and argue about oil. LiquiMoly FTW!

You should replace the plugs if your close to the 45k interval and coils especially if your over 100k on the coils, when thinking about running a tune.

A tune will eat plugs more often. Depending on psi, you maybe are changing them every 30k vs every 45k.

Oil would obviously have to be changed more often too. I'd consider a 5w-40 weight vs a 5w-30 as well.,
