Charge pipe burst on stock 335i
So I just got my 335i just over a month ago. Had been driving for a bit yesterday and was finally on my way home when coming out of a corner, I got in the gas to pass a slower driving and heard a pop. It felt like I had hit something in the road. Afterwards car would accelerate so limped it the 1/2 mile home. When I looked under the hood everything looked normal, no leaks, but when I felt the charge pipe it would wiggle a lot. It had completely cracked at the seem near the throttle body. Wasn't expecting it on stock boost. Car is completely stock. The AZ heat can be killer on plastics. It's at the dealer now getting replaced under the CPO.

haha, i had this happen the day after i bought my car last month. y does bmw even charge like $240 for this crappy flimsy pipe. i've seen tons of posts on this pipe breaking.
google it, common issue. i have a x5 too, seems like only the 335i's suffer from this, x5 n55 has not reported this. weird |

Same thing happened to me 3 months ago. Heard a big pop on WOT and next thing you know 1/2 engine light came on. I replaced it the next day. The factory charge pipe lasted 48,000 miles.

Yeah I knew it was a common issue, but I thought it was more common when boost was increased over stock. I've also only had my car for just over a month. If I was out of warrant, I would just go aftermarket. Now I'm driving a 328i dealer loaner.

Happened to me on my old bone stock 2008 335i. It happens. Same scenario, too, rounding a corner and punching it. I was under warranty, too, so the dealer replaced it. If you're not going to mod, I'd stick with the OEM replacement, but if you are -- even just a tune -- you definitely should go with an aftermarket.

i guess cel depends on how much you boost after it starts to leak. after they replaced mine, it was a bit loose on the IC side, so it came off from there and i didn't have a CEL.

After it was replaced with new, driving away from dealer it slid off the IC side. I just had to screw it back on and its been ok. I guess they didnt screw the clamp on tightly |

Yeah mine happened at 54k. Split perfectly at the seam that BMS has on their chargepipe page. I'm about to take long road trip so glad it happened now and not in the middle of nowhere.

I was just about to ask at what mileage did it happen. I'm in AZ too. I'm at about 57,000 miles but luckily this hasn't happened to me yet. If it does I would probably get one of the aftermarket aluminum ones (after warranty).
