GT3 RS tested by Car & Driver
What stood out to me the most....108 db at WOT, 4 times louder than the Hellcat and 1000 times better sounding. Goosebumps-o-plenty.

Right..but that is surely not the point of this car.

I think the assembly and quality/feel of materials also partially account for the price differential. My 36k mileage, 6 year old GT3 still feels like a new car. Surfaces wearing minimally, buttons/knobs solid and with positive feel. Car devoid of rattles or squeaks. The depreciation curve of the Porsche also are far more favorable than a corvette.
Whether you, as a consumer, see any value in that is subjective. In part also, influenced by the amount of disposable income one has. Strictly from a performance point of view, lap times are indeed similar. If it's all that matters to you, then yes, I would simply get the best performing car for the lowest price. But for me, when calculating my decision; quality construction, durability, engine placement, depreciation, all were considered along with performance....

.4 of a second is a pretty sizeable gap to 60. And it just keeps getting bigger as speed increases.

I said what stood out the most, not what I liked the most. Does your lawn mower have a glorious flat 6 that screams at 8800 rpm? The article mentioned that driving near redline for more than 15 minutes a day could cause permanent hearing loss. I find that rather interesting.

No, but I have a I6 that screams to 6K RPMs (peak power) and a I4 that screams to 13,750 RPMs. None of which blow up like the 3.8/4.0 GT3 RS engines. Interesting to read that the weight savings causes the weight to unevenly distributed. |

Indeed, it's a 13.3% difference.
If that difference/gain was extrapolated to all aspects of the car, it would lap a base 991.2 every 7.5 laps. That would make it a ridiculously fast car.... (but in practice it doesnt work that way )

Similar gap in acceleration from 570S to RS except 570S is similar price to RS, and 570 acceleration is at least 6-8mph faster trap speeds than RS. Funny how people view RS as so much faster in straight line than base 991.2 but when a car it competes with accelerates quicker at a similar gap they never mention it

As for that test vs 570S, car and driver seemed to not get as good of a time vs the RS whereas at VIR 570S was only 4 tenths off RS time and I believe Mclaren was present there to tell drivers how to get the most out of the car. In normal driving on the street the RS is significantly slower as the base Mclaren is quicker in straight line than 991.2 turbo S with 580hp!! Overall both cars are awesome with 570S having much better materials with carbon tub vs Porsche's steel/aluminum chassis and RS having better sounding engine and track setup/tires!! If only Porsche would have a carbon tub or Mclaren would use an NA engine similar to old F1 things would be near perfect! |

The GT3 RS is an awesome car but it is one step too far for me(not that I could easily get one). The regular GT3 is on the right side of tastefulness IMO. I can't rationalize a Turbo or a Turbo S because of the heavy depreciation. If I want pure performance that is relatively affordable I'll stick to GTRs(waiting on the R36). Above sticker buying is for people that money is never an issue. For me I don't have that luxury but I have purchased enough Cayennes and Macans to warrant my dealer snagging me a GT car at MSRP every year or so. I'm going to sell my 991.1 GT3 before winter and cross my fingers I can get a 991.2 GT3 or a 991 GT2 next year. The biggest problem is 918 owners(Porsche VIP) get pretty much all the allocations.
