N54 CP Variants

Hi all, am I right in saying there are two variations of charge pipe for the N54? I have an '07 with the rubber elbow version and have heard that this one seems pretty robust compared to the later model one piece unit?

Yes n54s after 08 have a one piece charge pipe (integrated elbow) while 07-08 have a two piece design where the cp and elbow are separate. From what I've heard both are just cheap plastic and if you plan on increasing boost it is probably a good idea to get an upgraded one.

I am one of a few running 21psi on the stock 07/08 charge pipe with no issues. If you search on here deeper you'll see where some people have checked the differences and the 07/08 is definitely beefier. That doesn't mean it won't break by any means, though, and I'd almost bet that more 07/08's have broken than survived.

also, there is an upper charge pipe that connects to the throttle in addition to the lower charge pipe that connects to the intercooler. the new parts are not compatible with the old parts (ie if you have to replace the upper charge pipe, you will also need to replace the lower one).
