Tire Size for 18x8.5
I realize this question has bounced around a little in the past, but I just wanted to get a fresh take from people that have upgraded their wheels.
I have a stock 2007 335i sedan (non-sport) and just purchased 18x8.5 style 313 wheels: https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...oke/ES1897738/ What size tires would you guys recommend? It's just a daily driver - no track time. From what I can determine, most are recommending 235 40 18. I'll probably put some flavor of Michelin Pilot Sport (A/S 3) on them. PS - If anyone is interested in some really nice condition style 159 wheels, especially in the Raleigh area, please let me know. $150 each or $450 for all 4 (plus shipping if I have to mail). |

Thanks John... I definitely want the square setup... are the 235's too big?
I'm not concerned at all about any changes in the speedo - that registers 3 miles an hour too fast with my current stock config anyway. |

can't say...but with the sport package the fronts are 8" and the rears are 8.5"....that's why my fantasy is to have a car with 11" rims from the factory...
We all want what we want...at least my next used beater car (next spring) is gonna be a sofa on wheels, but have 4 piston fixed calipers in the front, 2 piston in the rear (LS430) |

18 x 8.5 square? You could run anywhere from 225 square to 255 square. 225 will look a little stretched.
225/40 235/40 245/40 245/35 255/35

Thanks Harambe
I'm leaning towards 235/40 or 245/40 - what would be the difference in terms of appearance? drive-ability? ride comfort? wheel protection? Thanks in advance for any info. |

what's really interesting is that many say a square setup is ideal when you have a 50/50 weight distribution.
The reason for increasing width is for grip. For a long time, I thought that the mfg wanted to introduce understeer. Yeah, but why would they do that...in retrospect I realize you would not have an optional sport package and deliberately make it understeer even more... but in the case of a 911 where the weight is rear-biased, you do want wider tires in the rear.... I've also heard it said that increasing width increases hydroplaning.... I'm stubborn, though, I kept my snows @ 18"...though dropped it to a square setup at 225/40-18.....in theory 225/45-17 is probably better.... looks > function, right ? |

There will be a bit of stretch running a 225/40 on a 8.5...

I run 235/40/18s on an 8" wide wheel and it fits much better than the 225's I had on them before. Also, if you step up to 245's up front, you may get a bit of rubbing with stock camber settings (depending on your wheel offset).

This correct, with the stock 8.0 inch rims I installed 225/40 /18 Michelin PSS and they looked good. After upgrading to Apex wheels with a 8.5 rim width, the tire looks stretched. In a month or so when I replace my tires, I'm going with 235's.
