Why do Armenians tend to gaurd themselves so closely? I know it's prevelant in other cultures, but even more so w/ Armenians. Take for instance a lady that works in my cousins work group, when asked to join them for an evening meal she said that she could not go because the people w/ whom she'd be interacting w/, are not Armenian. Sure that's one of many examples I could give you. I have never seen such a resistance from any other culture though, to interact w/ others in an informal setting such as going out to eat, or whatever else. They(hate to use that word) only seem to interact w/ one another, which IMO, is a shame. Everyone has something to offer, you'll never know if you have your hands clenched in a fist. If I've offended anyone, for sure was not my intent.

Its because we do not want to lose our culture, and i for one am already guilty for that.
We have experienced genocide, depravity, countless invasions and a massive diaspora. For all that bloodshed and tears, we guard our culture. gotcha shim

Not to throw another group of people in to the mix, but a freind of mine, who happens to be Persian once said this when talking about "cultural clicks", "When Persians are around, Persians are about Persians, if you have Black people around... they don't care". |

Err, you're wrong. African American is not a culture, its a race. Black, White, Asian. whatever.
now if you said Egyptian, or Moroccian, or Nambian or something along those lines then yes, that is a culture. No, no one has shared a history such as Armenia. it is alone, just as its language. Just like Russia. I can learn i want about being Japanese, or being Jewish, but at the end of the day, i won't be a real Japanese person or a Jewish person. Besides, more basturma for me

If you were at a big party, you would interact with family first. To them, that's how it is. Many (mostly older) Armenians are very close-minded and stubborn people. They do not like change.
